Phagwara's JCT ended the year on a high note by defeating Viva Kerala 2–0 in a seventh round match of the inaugural I-League in Calicut. The win helped JCT to join Dempo SC on 18 points but the Goan outfit remains in top courtesy of a one goal better goal difference. While the club from God’s own country remains in fifth position after tasting two successive defeats in the I-League.
Sunil Chetri, the Indian Footballer of the Year netted in the opening goal in the 25th minute with a beautiful header while young Baljit Singh Sahni doubled the advantage in the 69th minute of the match when Sunil Chetri, who was suspicious of an offside position, gave a high ball to Sahni who blasted the ball into the net to seal the win for the team from Punjab.
Viva Kerala will face a uphill task when they meet the defending NFL champions Dempo SC away while JCT will face the struggling Salgoacar SC in Margao next.
