The top of the table I-League clash between Phagwara's JCT and Dempo SC from Goa at the Ambedkar Stadium here in Delhi ended in a drab goalless draw. Dempo stay top of the league with now 14 points from six matches, closely followed by JCT on 12 points from the same number of matches.
The eagerly awaited match between the two undefeated sides turned out to be a disappointing one leaving the few hundred in the stands disgruntled. The match seldom rosed to any great heights with neither sides creating any open chances in the first half, the closest that came was a 27th minute header by Dempo captain Ranty Martins Soleye which flew over the crossbar. The match was confined mostly to midfield play. Brazilian Edu upfront for JCT looked listless throughout the match with JCT clearly missing the services of Sunil Chetri who was suspended. While the Dempo forwards were denied any space by an impressive JCT defence lead by skipper Julius Irabor Akpele. The best chance of the match and the first attempt on goal fell to Joaquim Abranches, who had comie in for suspended Chidi Edeh, in the 79th minute with his stinging right footer ended straight at the hands of JCT keeper Karanjit Singh. Dempo had a chance to steer clear of the rest of the pack with a victory but could manage only a draw in a lacklustre match, while JCT could have gone top of the I-League with a win today.
