Sporting Clube de Goa took sweet revenge on NFL champions Dempo SC with a 3-0 win in the 8th Super Cup final at the Muncipal Corporation Stadium, Calicut Dempo had snatched the NFL title away from Sporting Clube on the last day of the league.
It wasn't easy to play in Calicut today with rains affecting the ground conditions. And this seemed to be a bigger problem for Dempo SC, who were also depleted with the absence of a number of regulars, especially the absence of prolific Nigerian striker Ranty Martins Soleye was felt upfront. Sporting Clube meanwhile could rely on their Nigerian duo upfront of captain MacPherlin Dudu Omagbemi and Chidi Edeh, who troubled the Dempo defence throughout with their class.
Sporting Clube had control of the match from the start and took a deserving lead in the 11.minute when Dudu scored of a cross from Rajesh Meetei which had been headed on by Chidi. In the 24.minute Sporting Clube doubled their lead when Dudu snatched the ball from Dempo defender Majekodumni Bolaji and passed the ball on the onrushing Chidi to score. Only a few minutes later the third Sporting Clube Nigerian midfielder Adebayo Adewusi attempt was blocked by Dempo keeper Satish Kumar. Dempo tried to get some chances thereafter but the Sporting Clube backline was not really troubled in the first half.
After the breather Dempo coach Armando Colaco tried to intervene with some substitutions, but even they couldn't change the fortunes of Dempo today. It was striker RC Prakash who missed the best Dempo chances. Sporting Clube continued to control proceedings and it was none other than Dudu himself, who settled the match in the 81.minute when he pounded on a lose ball, which keeper Satish Kumar couldn't clear. Thereafter Dempo just gave-up with the deficit too big on the day.
