The key critiria to play for India is quite simple: The player would have to hold an INDIAN passport, otherwise no one can play for India as per Government of India regulations.

Though FIFA has relaxed it's rules from January 1, 2004 on players playing for countries of their origin, the Government of India critiria are more important and valid in this case. So anyone interested to play for India will have to hold an Indian passport. Just being of Indian origin will not do...
