"After a lot of persistance with the MCD, they have finally acted on our request. The AFC team who came for inspection of the venue had specified that there should be work done on the players' dressing room and we are doing it. The grass is also being re-laid. There was a little trouble regarding water for the grass, but we have sorted it out. Work is progressing smoothly," says N.K Bhatia, secretary of DSA.
The expenses for the preparations will be fully beared by the All India Football Federation (AIFF). Bhatia: "The AIFF will be paying us. They have their own marketing team who is responsible for marketing the game. We do not come into the picture. The Federation pays us whatever expenses we have incurred towards the conduct of the match."

The dates of the competition were also amended from 25th March to 7th April 2006, to Saturday 1st April to Sunday 16th April 2006, in order not to clash with the Independence Day activities on 26th March 2006 in Bangladesh. Note-1: The INDIA team arrived safely in Japan yesterday. It was a short trip from Hongkong across to Japan. The weather is cold and rainy as one would expect at this time of the year on the "Island of the Rising Sun". The INDIA team has no injury worries and after a much improved performance in the second half against Hongkong, the Indian team is confident of putting-up a good display. But besides the weather also the kit is a concern for the team management. Nike has provided the new kit for the Indian football team, but the jersey's are short sleeves which might be a problem in the cold weather. This might be a handicap for the Indian team as our boys are not used to such cold weather conditions.
The Japanese meanwhile are going to play against INDIA without any of their Europe-based players. The team will mis stars like Nakamura, Nakata and Takahara, but still Japan are a quality side with Shinji Ono back in the J-League and the national team. This home squad has now been training under head coach Zico for over two weeks now and yesterday beat Finland 2-0 in an international friendly at Shizuoka. Zico isn't too bothered about India after his experiences were good in the 2006 World Cup qualifiers in 2004.
Note-2: A 'The Telegraph' report: Fransa Club on Monday did reply to All India Football Federation’s letter of ultimatum, but chose to put the ball in AIFF’s court with a cleverly worded letter. While they avoided the call for tendering an apology, they also made it a point to remind AIFF that the Fransa-Air India match should be replayed.
The letter, signed by club secretary George Fernandes, says that Fransa are “eager to return to the NFL, but would like to continue from the fifth round against Air India. ... If we do not get to play the fifth round encounter, we will be in a disadvantageous position. Our players will be disheartened and will not be able to give their best for the remainder of the NFL.”
The club chairman, Micky Pacheco, who was in the Capital, told The Telegraph, “we are not going to field the side unless they replay the Fransa-Air India match. We have not put it in writing, but that’s going to be our stand.”
Calling the AIFF president Priya Ranjan Das Munshi as the one who is ‘ruining’ the game in India, Pacheco said “What’s going on in the name of refereeing is simply disgusting.”
On the AIFF demand of tendering an apology, the Fransa letter said: “We would like to place on record that our manager Anthony Fernandes, coach Norbert Gonsalves and goalkeeper Virender Singh have already apologised before the disciplinary committee for whatever happened on the field.”
The AIFF secretary, Alberto Colaco said, “We have received a letter from Fransa. A decision, however, will be taken only on Wednesday.”

Datta: "It has been happening too regularly for the past couple of years. Referees like Balu, Saji Kurian or Vikramjeet have been unofficially banned by the AIFF, but absolutely no action has been taken against the erring players. We are certainly not setting a healthy precedent."
An unnamed refree: "After Junior's death, no one was pulled up except for Balu, who was one of India's top referees. In the Santosh Trophy, Manipur players pushed around the referee. Same did the Fransa footballers in the Federation Cup. Was any of these footballers ever punished? Here exclusively on IndianFootball.Com are the first pictures of the new INDIA home and away kits made by US sportwear giants Nike, the No.1 sportswear brand in the world. Nike is the new INDIA kit sponsor from January 1, 2006 and INDIA will officially for the first time wear one of the jersey's in their away international friendly against Hongkong on Saturday.
On Monday Nike launched in Berlin, Germany the 2006 FIFA World Cup kits for the eight national teams being kitted by them. The eight jersey's where launched by international stars Adriano (Brazil), Luis Figo (Portugal), Ruud van Nistelrooy (Netherlands), Ji Sung Park (South Korea), Jared Borgetti (Mexico), Mark Bresciano (Australia), Dado Prso (Croatia) and DaMarcus Beasley (USA) at the floodlit historic Berlin Olympic Stadium. But Nike not only launched those eight kits but also those of six other national teams, which are currently being kitted by Nike and one of them is our INDIAN national team.
The new INDIA jersey's show a connection between the established sporting inheritance and latest sports clothing technology.
Like for other national teams Nike decided to use conformity with the cultural use of jewel colours for INDIA with the traditional blue Indian sapphire as the main color of the home jersey, which has reef-blue set off at the collar and
at the sleeve band. Further the jersey has a strong white strip, which runs from the shoulder to the seam on the left side with the AIFF logo and AIFF written on it at chest level. White shorts and sapphire blue stockings complete the new INDIA home kit. Nike says the jersey mediates a cool, but noble look; and from what we can see the jersey contains certain elements from the Brazilian and USA jersey's.
The away jersey has another juwel colour as the main colour, this time red. The jersey has blue set off at the collar and
at the sleeve band. The kit is complete with sapphire blue shorts and white stockings. Another simplistic jersey with a good feel.
The new lettering of the players numbers make a simple and clear statement. The rounded off corners suggest movement, while the outlines of the actual numbers are salient and uncomplicated.
Also these jersey's are made from Nike Sphere Dry, in order to offer the players best quality for matches under subtropical conditions which prevail in our country. The jersey's are said to take the sweat towards the outside and avoid stickiness, another positive aspect for the players.
We will try and find out when and where you can buy the jersey's in India and abroad.

Note-1: As part of their preparation to face INDIA in the 2007 Asian Cup qualifiers, Japan faced the United States away in California yesterday. The US boys won 3-2 against the Nippon Blues at the Giants Baseball Stadium, San Francisco. The USA went into a 3-0 lead through Eddie Pope, Clint Dempsey and Taylor Twellman, but Japan reduced the deficit through late goals from Seiichiro Maki and Yuji Nakazawa. ONGC finish second in the league, and are thus the second team promoted to the Mumbai Elite Division, along with Akbar Travels. Note-3: Andhra Pradesh as the erstwhile Hyderabad used to be one of the hotbeds of Indian football talent. Until the 1970s Hyderabad was at the top of Indian football along with Bengal with teams like Hyderabad City Police and numerous players. Current national coach Syed Nayeemuddin is one of them.
But there has been no quality club or top talent coming from Andhra lately. This is due to internal troubles within the Andhra Pradesh Football Association. Currently two factions are fighting for control of the APFA, which has led to the FA being unfunctional. Now the AIFF has asked the APFA to form an ad-hoc committee, which comprises of two members each from the rival factions or otherwise the APFA would face disassociation from the APFA. Both sides have presented their case to the AIFF to strenghten their position, but the interest of football should come first, as always.

The Disciplinary Committee of the 10th National League met at 'Football House', New Delhi today to discuss and decide about a number of pending issues. The committee comprosing off SR Dev (Madhya Pradesh) as it's president plus SA Hamid (Jammu&Kashmir) and Captain SS Virk (Services Sports Control Board).
The committee rejected the demand of Fransa-Pax to replay their match against Mahindra United or award a point each to both clubs on the ground that "the protest is on a decision of the referee, based on a point of fact."
About disciplinary action against Fransa-Pax players and officials the committee has asked the concerned persons to appear infront of the Disciplinary Committee at the earliest, so the committee could take a fair decision on whatever punishment, fees where needed or not.
Meanwhile the Committee decided to hand back decision on the Fransa-Pax vs Air-India match, which was not held, to the NFL Emergency Committee. It felt the matter was not under it's jurisdiction.
In other decisions. The committee turned down a protest by Sporting Clube de Goa against the result of their Round 2 match against JCT Mills. It was turned down on the same grounds as the Fransa-Pax protest.
Also Mohammedan Sporting Club's protest against Air-India fielding an "ineligible player" was turned down. Air-India defender Binoy Kuruvilla was on a one match suspension ahead of the Fransa-Pax FC match, but the match was not played though Air-India was at the venue and Kuruvilla was left out of the Air-India squad for that match. He was then fielded in the matcha against Mohammedan Sporting. The Disciplinary Committee agreed to the logic and explanation of the Mumbai club.

UNI report: Cracking its whip on Fransa Pax FC, the AIFF today asked the Goan club to reverse its decision of withdrawing from the ongoing 10th National Football League by tomorrow or face disciplinary action.
Addressing a press conference here, AIFF President Priya Ranjan Das Munshi said Pransa has been asked to respond by tomorrow evening, expressing regret for their behaviour and pledging total adherehnce to the rules of the NFL.
Earlier, miffed by allegedly poor refereeing standard, Fransa Pax president Mickey Pacheco had threatened to withdraw his team from the ongoing championship, if his side was denied a replay of the match against Mahindra United. Subsequently, Fransa did not turn up in the match against Air India.
"The Emergency Committees of the AIFF and NFL met here today and we examined the video clippings of the Fransa-Mahindra match and went through the reports of referee, match commissioner and the local organising committee during the three-hour-long meeting. Accordingly, we rejected Fransa's protest note," Mr Dasmunsi said.
"If Fransa fails to respond to the decision of the Emergency Committee by tomorrow evening, as AIFF President, I have been authorised to to take further steps in accordance with the existing rules," he said. >He described Fransa's decision to pull out of the NFL as "detrimental to league structure and our commitment to the spectators, sponsors and television".
Pressed what kind of action coulod be taken against the Goan outfit if they don't respond, Mr Dasmunsi said, "I will announce that only after they fail to meet the deadline tomorrow. We have given them an opportunity to mend ways and it's upto them to avail it or throw it away." "The decisions have been conveyed to the Goa Football Association (GFA) Secretary and the same would be sent to the club,' he added.
An AIFF source, however, informed UNI that Fransa is all set to rejoin te NFL and there is no question of replacing it with another team to maintain the 10-team league structure.
"Of course they can be slapped a fine of Rs 10 lakhs besides disciplinary actions in case they ignore this decision. But things have been settled and they are most likely to rejoin NFL," he said.
The matter pertaining to the abandoned Fransa-Air India match would be disposed by the AIFF Disciplinary Committee meeting on Thursday, he added.
The Fransa-Pax FC reply:
UNI report: Goa's Fransa-Pax FC, which was today directed by the AIFF to reverse its decision of withdrawing from the ongoing 10th National Football League by tomorrow or face disciplinary action, stuck to its guns, saying there was no question of "compromising with our dignity and self respect".
"We will never compromise with our dignity and self-respect both on the field and outside the field. We hereby reiterate our earlier decision to refrain from playing till justice is given to us," the Club Chairman Francisco Pacheco stated here. If the AIFF wants us out of the NFL, we would be glad to know the same from them and exit gracefully, he said.
Fransa Pax's response was in reply to AIFF President Priya Ranjan Das Munshi, who regretted the behaviour of the Club and sought total adherence to the NFL rules during an emergency meeting of the top sport body and NFL today in New Delhi.
Miffed by allegedly poor refereeing standard, Mr Pacheco had threatened to withdraw his team from the ongoing championship, if his side was denied a replay of the match against Mahindra United.
The Club, in its letter, a copy of which was circulated to the media this evening, said the AIFF was "purposely" pretending to be blind and deaf to the reality and hence "we expect no justice from the Federation".
"It is evident that the AIFF has got a hidden agenda and that they are ready to go to any extent to achieve the same. It is all out to victimise our Club to give a back door entry to the clubs which were relegated (from NFL) last year," Mr Pacheco alleged in the letter.
The very fact the AIFF decided to withdraw/suspend P Bikramjit, who officiated the January 30 match between Fransca Pax and Mahindra United, Mumbai, proved beyond doubt that the referee's decision in awarding the 2-1 win to Mahindra was biased, he said.
The AIFF's decision to withdraw/suspend the referee in less than 48 hours of the match had also shown that "we were right in lodging our protest against the decision of the referee", Mr Pacheco said.
Though this corroborated our stand that we had been victimised, it was surprising that the emergency committee of the AIFF refused to "see any sense in our protest and has rejected the same", the Goa Club said.
"It is extremely disheartening and pitiful to read para 3 of the AIFF resolution which clearly shows that the Federation is more interested in their commitments to the sponsors and television rather than to the betterment of football," the club stated in the reply.

10th National League - Goa: Air-India 1-0 Mohammedan Sporting Club - Goal: 1-0 Bashiree Mohammed Abbas (69').
Air-India scored a lone goal victory against Mohammedan Sporting Club in a match-up of the two promoted sides in the 10th National League at the Nehru Stadium, Goa. Air-India now have seven points from five matches, while Mohammedan Sporting remain on 10 points from now seven matches after their second consecutive loss.
Air-India controlled proceedings in most of the match, while Mohammedan Sporting seemed to have lost the momentum which had made them the surprise package of the NFL so far. For the Airmen from Mumbai their Nigerian striker Bashiree Mohammed Abbas was the dangerman initially. Sporting keeper Gopal Das had another good match in goal and denied his former teammate Suley Musah a goal from a freekick at the half-hour mark.

Narender Meetei could have given his team the lead in the 65.minute, but Air-India took the lead four minutes later. 10th National League - Calcutta: East Bengal Club 0-1 Mahindra United - Goal: 0-1 Jose Ramirez Barreto (68').
What do you get when title contenders East Bengal cross swords with title favourites Mahindra United? A lip-smacking display of competitive football that boosts the glorious image of the game. The two teams faced each other at the Saltlake Stadium in Calcutta for the Round 7 clash in the 10th National League 2005/06. Although the match was being played in Calcutta, the visitors looked the dominant side for a better part of the match. The unrivaled Jose Ramirez Barreto scored the only goal of the match in the 68th minute to increase the gap between the teams to 4 points with Mahindra having one game in hand. Without the attacking prowess of Baichung Bhutia and Mike Okoro, the East Bengal side lacked firepower in the final third and this cost them the match.
The first half started off in breathtaking fashion as both sides got chances in the first 15 minutes. In the 6th minute, Gouranga Dutta just failed to reach a through pass from Jayanta Sen while Barreto experienced the same feeling when he failed to reach the ball in the 10th minute after East Bengal goalkeeper Naseem Akhtar sloppily spilt the ball. Debabrata Roy's shot in the 12th minute did not trouble the opposition goalkeeper. Yakubu returned the compliment when he misfired in the 13th minute. Kulothungan's free kick in the 19th minute also sailed over the bar. The Mahindra team looked unsettled in these opening minutes and this was later admitted by their coach in the post-match press conference. However, as the match progressed, the visitors tightened their grip on the match and would have taken the lead in the 26th minute had Barreto reached a superb cross from Subash Chakraborty. There was a flutter in the stands as Yakubu sent the ball past Naseem Akhtar in the 31st minute but the goal was ruled out because he was caught offside. Kulothungan had another chance in the 37th minute after a good run by Malswam Tulunga but his shot was off target. Steven Dias' shot in the 40th minute was also off target. So, the first half ended goalless with majority of the attempts on goal from both sides being off target.
The second half continued in the same fashion. Kulothungan sent another shot over the crossbar in the 51st minute. Surkumar Singh thundered a shot towards the goal in the 57th minute. The shot whizzed high over the crossbar but left a diving Naseem Akhtar injured on the field. However, he was soon up on his feet again and resumed his duties between the posts. Yakubu got a free header in the 61st minute but failed to punish East Bengal for the defensive lapse. The best chance for East Bengal fell to Nabi in the 67th minute. Mahindra United custodian Subhashish Roy Chowdhury punched the ball out after a Jayanta Sen shot on goal. The ball fell kindly to Nabi whose first shot was blocked by Mahesh Gawli. The ball fell at his feet again but his shot went high over the crossbar from point blank range. That was the moment the likes of Baichung Bhutia and Mike Okoro were missed the most. The East Bengal players were hit with a bolt from the blue in the next minute itself when Barreto received a ball from the midfield and scored the winner with aplomb. The last part of the match passed in a flurry of yellow cards as the referee cautioned four players within a space of twenty minutes. Substitute Sasthi Duley squandered a chance of scoring the potential equaliser when his shot went straight into the hands of Subhashish Roy Chowdhury in the first minute of added time. Alvito D'Cunha made a brief appearance towards the end and looked impressive but he was obviously not fit enough to play even for 45 minutes. Thus, the gulf between the two teams in the National League widened to four points (with Mahindra having one game in hand) and the East Bengal players can now surely feel the coveted title eluding them once more.

10th National League - Goa: Salgaocar SC 1-1 Mohun Bagan AC - Goals: 1-0 Agnelo Colaco (15'), 1-1 Dipendu Biswas (80').
In a match between two former champions who are searching for their form and scoring boots, Salgaocar SC were held to a one-all draw by Mohun Bagan AC in a 10th National League match at the floodlit Nehru Stadium, Margao. Salgaocar now have five points from six matches, while Mohun Bagan also have collected five points but the Green-and-Maroon have played a match more.
From the word go both sides played attacking football, but they also proved on the day why they have had problems in scoring goals lately. Mohun Bagan's Nigerian striker Ibrahim Awudu shot was wide after just 10 minutes, but it was Salgaocar who had a couple of good chances through Manitombi Singh and Micky Fernandes in the first quarter before they took the lead. A Jerose Oliveira cross from the right was headed into the Bagan goal by defender Agnelo Colaco. Bagan could have equalised before the breather, but Ibrahim missed an easy chance infront of the Salgaocar goal shooting the ball over the crossbar.
After the break Salgaocar pulled their men back with Bagan starting a quest for the equaliser. The longer the match lasted the Bagan pressure grew stronger, still the Salgaocar defence stood tall with especially veteran Roberto Fernandes doing a good job, he later received the "Man of the Match" award. But Bagan got the equaliser in the 81.minute when substitute Dipendu Biswas headed in a freekick from another substitute Coffe Edem Agbessi from Benin.
The match did turn rough sometimes, but the good referee S Suresh had things under his control flashing eight yellow cards at the players, one of them saw it twice. Bagan were then reduced to 10 men in injury time when their Brazilian defender Eduardo Chacon Coelho Lacerda received his second yellow card of the match for a foul on Samson Singh. Thereafter Bagan survived a Salgaocar onslaught in which the Goans could have won the match before the referee finally blew the whistle.

10th National League - Calcutta: Mohammedan Sporting Club 0-2 Dempo SC - Goals: 0-1,0-2 Ranty Martins Soleye (24',44').
Champions Dempo SC finally won their first match in the ongoing 10th National League, a 2-0 away win against an inform Mohammedan Sporting Club at the Saltlake Stadium, Calcutta. Meanwhile for promoted Mohammedan Sporting, the surprise package so far, the loss today ended their excellent run in the last four rounds where the club were able to pick-up 10 points. Mohammedan Sporting remain on 10 points from six matches, while Dempo moved out of the relegation zone with now six points from as many matches.
Dempo played like champions today and their Nigerian striker Ranty Martins Soleye proved his class with two crucial goals to win the match for the Men in Blue, while high flying Sporting came down crashing onto earth. Dempo controlled the midfield and didn't allow Sporting to play their natural game, also taking care of Sporting dangerman Patrick. Dempo's poor start into the NFL was forced by numerous injuries to key player and this seems to also becoming a problem for Sporting, where Zimbabwean defender David Mkandawire had to take the field with an injury and the end of today's match Patrick and some other players also didn't look 100% match fit.
Dempo took the lead in the 24.minute when a John Charles Dias cross from the right was headed down by Majekodunmi Bolaji for Ranty to score. A minute from the breather Ranty doubled the lead once again working in tandem with Bolaji to beat the Sporting defence. Ranty could have actually completed his hattrick at the hour mark, but he was denied by Gopal Das in the Sporting goal. With Patrick taken care off by the Dempo defenders it was left to Bijen Singh to try his luck, but he wasted two good chances. Sporting coach Habib did try to add some teeth to his teams attack with introducing veteran Raman Vijayan but it did not bring any results.

Note-2: (Gasper Crasto): Navelim Youth Centre sponsored by City International Exchange Co emerged champions from among 17 teams in the 9th edition of Bombay Boys Rolling Trophy one day 7 a-side football tournament beating AVC Overseas Association 3-2 in the final.
The tournament sponsored by Refreshment Trading Co - Coco Cola and organized by Bombay Boys Sports Club under the auspices of Kuwait Indian Football Federation was played on the first day of Eid at Soor Grounds. The games were witnessed by a large holiday crowd.
Seven a-side matches in Kuwait are played on a standard size ground with a 20-minute duration divided into two halves. A tie-breaker system (3 penalties each) is applied in an event of a draw.
The finals played between NYC and AVC couldn't have been better. With both the teams solid in defense and attacking at every opportunity, each moment of the match kept the crowds absolutely delighted. There were numerous attempts at goal either side of the half. Navelim goalkeeper Britto Pereira came up with point blank saves while Jose Fernandes under AVC bar parried away scorchers -- specially from NYC striker Cruz Rodrigues. The normal time, however, failed to clinch a goal. Stand-in goalkeeper Alfred Pires blocked one penalty and scored the final spot-kick with ease. Navelim were on target scoring through Gasper Crasto, Duarte Ferrao and Alfred Pires.
Earlier, in the semifinals, BBSC (B) gave away their title credentials by losing out the semis to AVC in the tie-breaker, while Navelim advanced to finals overcoming M&M sponsored Veterans, strong contenders DHL, and Kuwait Goans Association. Navelim were fortunate when star players of their opponents -- KGA goalkeeper Connie Rodrigues, and AVC striker Jimmy Goveiea were red-carded in earlier games for offensive language. IFRA (Indian Football Referees Association) officials have been strongly implementing laws on abusive language which has gained remarkable backing from spectators and club officials alike.

10th National League - Ludhiana: JCT Mills 0-1 East Bengal Club - Goal: 0-1 Narinder Singh (9', own Goal).
JCT Mills suffered a 0-1 home defeat in the 10th National League at the hand of East Bengal Club at the well-filled Guru Nanak Stadium, Ludhiana. For the Phagwara Millmen it was the third defeat in a row and they remain on five points from six matches. The unbeaten Red-and-Gold brigade meanwhile now have 12 points from three wins and three draws.
East Bengal started strongly in the first quarter as has been usual in the last few matches and got the lead in the 9.minute. Cameroonian midfielder Ndem A Guy Kiyeck Herve took charge of the ball on the right flank still in JCT's half. Seeing an advancing Baichung Bhutia, Ndem shot a curling ball for the India captain, but before the ball got to Baichung, JCT defender Narinder Singh deflected the ball into his own net past a helpless Kalyan Chaubey in goal. East Bengal could have doubled the lead thereafter with Cameroonian defender Ngassa Ewane Guy Martial heading a corner over the bar and a Shylo Malswam Tulunga shot cleared by a JCT defender. Thereafter it was JCT's search for the equaliser, which eluded them for the rest of the match. JCT did miss the services of in-form striker Parveen Kumar, who was out due to a double card booking. His replacement Sunil Chetri did his best, even earning the "Man of the Match" award, but his partner upfront Johnson Segun Banner had an off day. Either the JCT finish was not good enough or East Bengal keeper Rajat Ghosh Dasdidar was in the way. Especially after the breather JCT had some good chances through Chetri, Marcos and substitute Baldeep Singh, but the story was always the same: no goal scored. So it remained 1-0 for East Bengal until the end.
JCT MILLS: 22-Kalyan Chaubey, 2-Jaspal Singh, 24-Narinder Singh, 3-Julius Irabor Akpele, 12-Daljit Singh, 7-Sukhjinder Singh (29' 13-Baldeep Singh), 16-Marcos Pereira, 6-Sukhwinder Singh, 15-Renedy Singh, 11-Sunil Chetri, 20-Johnson Segun Banner (86' 30-Surjit Singh).

Title aspirants Mahindra United scored their fourth win in a row in the 10th National League. Mahindra United moved back to the top of the NFL table with now 13 points from five matches, while Salgaocar SC remain on four points from as many matches after their third consecutive defeat.
Mahindra took an early fourth minute lead when Brazilian Jose Ramirez Barreto through pass found his Ghanian strike partner Yakubu Yusif, who made no mistake to beat Salgaocar keeper Arijit Sengupta. It was once more the class of Barreto and Yakubu which gave Mahindra a 2-0 lead in the 26.minute. Barreto got the ball across to defender Nanjangud Shivananju Manju, who had moved-up, who played the ball to Yakubu for him to score his second goal. Salgaocar where missing regulars Remus Gomes, Roberto Fernandes and Manitombi Singh and the weakened defence had their problems with Barreto and Yakubu. Only goalkeeper Arijit Sengupta denied Mahindra a bigger lead with some good saves, but he also was a stand-in player as regular keeper Sangram Mukherjee is out injured. It remained 2-0 for the Mumbai Jeepmen at the break.
After the breather Salgaocar put up a better display, but they only were able to reduce the margin in injury time through a goal from their Brazilian striker Bruno Oliveira, who had come on for Ashim Biswas. Oliveira was able to put in a Jerose Oliveira cross.

Note-1: The 10th National League Round 6 match between Fransa-Pax FC - Air-India scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled due to Fransa-Pax refusing to play the match.
Fransa-Pax had asked the AIFF to postpone their three remaining matches until the NFL break, but the AIFF did not bow to the pressure tactics, as they asked Fransa-Pax to play their matches and wait for a decision to be taken by the AIFF disciplinary committee on the issue. At today's pre-match manager's meeting Fransa-Pax did not attend as they had informed in writing before hand, so Match Commissioner MG Suvarna decided to call-off the match tomorrow.
Air-India Coach-cum- Manager Bimal Ghosh informed that his team would send a letter to the Match Commissioner and ask him to award the match to Air-India as per NFL rules as Fransa-Pax refused to play.
Match Commissioner MG Suvarna said he had talked to the AIFF secretary Alberto Colaco and that any decision would now be taken by the AIFF disciplinary committee.
Meanwhile the GFA secretary Savio Messias is been trying to convince Fransa president Mickky Pacheco not to disband his team in the interest of Goan football, which Pacheco has said was one of the options at his disposal, if the AIFF's decision was not in his clubs favour.
Note-2: With the state of the Cooperage ground in Mumbai staying as bad as it has been the Round 7 match Air-India vs Mohammedan Sporting Club has been shifted to Goa. The match would now be held a day later on February 7 at 19.00 IST at the Nehru Stadium, Margao.
Note-3: The book "Goalless: The Story of a Unique Footballing Nation" (A Social History of Indian Football), written by Boria Majumdar and Kausik Bandyopadhyay was released today by the AIFF president Priya Ranjan Das Munshi at the Press Corner of the Calcutta Book Fair. The book has been commissioned by the Indian Football Association.
Talking to the press after the book launch the AIFF president said that Baichung Bhutia would lead the India team during their first two matches in the 2007 Asian Cup qualifiers. The president said that he had a meeting with team manager PK Banerjee about the preparations for the trip to Japan.

10th National League - Goa: Sporting Clube de Goa 0-0 Mohun Bagan AC - Goals: none.
Super Cup champions Sporting Clube de Goa played out a goalless draw against former champions Mohun Bagan AC in a 10th National League match at the floodlit Nehru Stadium, Margao. After having played six matches Sporting Clube de Goa now have 10 points to remain unbeaten, while Mohun Bagan have four points from the same number of matches, but they remain winless.
It was one of those matches where the two teams tried to neutralise their opponents and the outcome was an unimaginative draw. Mohun Bagan took a defensive approach in trying to contain Sporting Clube's two dangerous Nigerian strikers MacPherlin Dudu Omagbemi and Chidi Edeh. Mohun Bagan's Brazilian defender Eduardo Chacon Coelho Lacerda, who later earned the "Man of the Match" award, was instrumental in controlling Dudu throughout the match. Sporting Clube controlled major parts of the match, but this control was mainly contained to the midfield.
Bagan had two good chances in the first half through a long-ranger from Tomba Singh and Ibrahim Awudu, who effort was cleared by a Sporting Clube defender. Sporting Clube had their best chance before the break through Bibiano Fernandes, but his shot sailed over the bar. After the break Sporting Clube had a couple of good chances through Dudu and Chidi but their chances also went over the crossbar. Bagan had the best chance of the match through Ibrahim, but once more the Sporting Clube defenders defused the danger.
MAN of the MATCH: Eduardo Chacon Coelho Lacerda (Mohun Bagan).

Note-1: Fransa-Pax FC president Mickky Pacheco at a press conference today threatened to disband his whole team, if the AIFF did not take a decision which was favourable to his club.
Pacheco stated that the AIFF has replied to his club that a decision could only be taken in a couple of weeks, which Fransa-Pax wasn't willing to accept and that the club would then boycott their upcoming matches against Air-India (February 3), Sporting Clube de Goa (February 6) and Salgaocar SC (February 9). The club expects the AIFF either to award both teams a point or reply the match.
The AIFF would call a disciplinary committee meeting in a few days time and have asked Fransa-Pax to send a representative to the meeting, but the club are reluctent to do so.
Interesting to note is that as per FIFA's international laws of the game, a referee's decision is ultimate and cannot be overturned afterwards. One will have to wait and see what happens...
