Note-1: One of Assam's strongest teams Oil India Limited from Duliajan had entered the new season without a coach so far. The OIL management wants to change that as soon as possible and a suitable coach seems to have been found in Bidhan Das, Assam directorate of sports football coach. And here might lie the problem as Das has also been sought by the Assam FA to coach the state women's team later this year in the National Games. If the AFA doesn't want or need Das, only then could be become OIL coach.

Note-1: Talking to IndianFootball.Com today, Mahindra United manager Henry Menezes said that the club has still not decided on who will be their new coach for the 2005/06 season. A final decision is still awaited. Further the club has signed young defender Samson Fernandes from Cabral SC, Goa, who had played in the NFL on loan to Vasco SC and then also in the U21 Goa team, where he impressed in the West Zone finals as the central defender against hosts Maharashtra.
Note-2: The Transfer of IM Vijayan from Churchill Brothers SC to East Bengal Club looked a sheer formality, but that doesn't seem to be the case now. Churchill Brothers have objected to the transfer as Vijayan is supposed to owe the club money and they would not release him until he repays them.
Meanwhile it is clear that Churchill Brothers will not close down or disband their team, even if they in all likelihood will have to play in the 2.Division NFL. Sanjay Parte and Subhashish Roy Chowdhury have left for Mohun Bagan, while seasoned Ratan Singh has joined Air-India. Churchill Brothers is said to have signed Amjad Hussain and Danny Muinaro (both Mohammedan Sporting), Niyas Rehman (Mohun Bagan), K Naushad (Indian Bank) and Mohammed Shafeeq (Kerala). On the foreigners front a little confusion prevails as the club is said to have retained all three foreigners. Ghanians Osumanu Husseini and Yakubu Yusif and Brazilian Marcos Pereira. If Churchill plays 2.Division they can only keep two of the foreigners and then there have been talks between Yakubu and Mahindra United, while Marcos talked to JCT Mills.
In Calcutta meanwhile Muttath Suresh signed again for East Bengal Club today, while earlier Madhab Das had left East Bengal to sign for Mohammedan Sporting.
Note-3: Former IFA secretary Ranjit Gupta has rejected a place in the IFA professional league sub-committee as he sees no logic in the new pro league to be launched. Another reason might be that Gupta was initially in the running for the chairmanship of the sub-committee but then we would have only been part of the sub-committee as a member.

Note-1: Bangalore's Hindustan Aeronautics Limited SC captain Dayanand, who was only 26, committed suicide today due to personal reasons. Dayanand, who had been having an affair with his 21 year old sister-in-law Reetu, jointly committed suicide with her. The two took the extreme step by consuming poison (the pesticide Endosulfan) as Reetu was set to be married-off by her parents. Dayanand had married Reetu's older sister Rashmi, a PE instructor at a school, out of love and Reetu lived with the couple and their two year old son at the HAL colony, Bangalore.
The last rites of the footballer will likely be carried out at Shimoga. Dayanand is survived by his parents and brother besides his wife and son.
At HAL the team management and team mates were shocked when they heard the news of the death of their captain.
The suicide of Dayanand is not only a loss to HAL and Bangalore, but also to Indian football as Dayanand was a potential Indian national team candidate.
Note-2: East Bengal Club today confirmed of having made an offer to 24 year old Pakistan striker Muhammad Essa. The Maidan giants have offered Essa a short-term contract to see if the player can adjust to conditions in Calcutta, but all would depend first of all on clearances from Government agencies. But the idea of signing Essa has come in for criticism from some quarters as it is thought it could rather have more PR and sponsorship value than footballing ones.
Further on the foreigners front East Bengal hope to bring back Nigerian Mike Okoro for the new season. Things are said to be good.
Meanwhile East Bengal and Mahindra United are battling it out for the best defenders in the country. Mahindra continue to say that they have a waterproof contract with Covan Lawrence, East Bengal have taken the stand to deny Deepak Kumar Mondal his clearance, if Covan isn't allowed to switch to the red-and-gold. Deepak had a two year contract running until 2006, but under request of the player East Bengal decided to allow Deepak to leave. Now with Covan not being allowed by Mahindra to join them, East Bengal are blocking Deepak's move across the other way.

Moosa had represented India between 1995 and 1998, while he played for top Indian sides like East Bengal Club, Churchill Brothers SC and Air-India. He had started his career with Bombay Muslims in 1990.
Note-3: As per the Guwahati Sports Association the season-opening first Nripendra Narayan Bhattacharjee Trophy (former MM Choudhury Trophy) will now be held from June 19 to 26. So far eight teams have confirmed their participation, for the local Guwahati season-opener.
But the dates for the much more prestigious Bordoloi Trophy remains undecided and a final decision is likely to be only taken in six to eight weeks time, when it becomes clearer when the National Games will be held in Guwahati. If the Games are held as per schedule, then they would open on November 12, but it is expected that the Games could only be held a month or two later due to unfinished construction work. For the GSA, who organise the Bordoloi Trophy, the problem is Guwahati's Nehru Stadium, Assam's only suitable football venue for the tournament, which would be renovated for the National Games.
Note-4: As part of their plans to develop football in Manipur, the All-Manipur FA now has an own AMFA Football Development Programme. As part of this programme the DSA - Bishnapur along with the AMOFA - Moirang will organise a training camp from June 20 for district footballers aged between 12 to 14 at the Moirang Multi-Purpose Higher Secondary School ground. The AMFA have deputed Bhuvaneswor Sharma and Shyam Singh as coaches, while for the following Churachandpur programme N Tomba Singh and W Khogen Singh have been named as coaches.

AFC Women's Championship 2005 Qualifiers - Hanoi - Group B: INDIA 1-2 Chinese Taipei - Goals: 0-1 Lan Mei-Fen (19'), 1-1 Oinam Bem Bem Devi (36'), 1-2 Lin Yu-Hui (46').
Report courtesy of the AFC: Chinese Taipei overcame a spirited Indian challenge 2-1 in a Group B match of the AFC Women's Championship qualifying round at the My Dinh Stadium here on Tuesday.
Now, Indian hopes of a qualification for the quarterfinals hinge on Chinese Taipei defeating Guam in the last group match on Thursday. Even if Chinese Taipei are upset, India's superior goal difference after the 10-0 defeat of Guam on the opening day is expected to stand the team in good stead. Two teams from each of the four groups qualify for the quarterfinals.
Chinese Taipei went ahead in the 19th minute through Lan Mei-Fen but India restored parity through Oinam Bem Bem Devi nine minutes from half time. Lin Yu-Hui supplied the winner a minute into the restart and Chinese Taipei managed to keep the lead till the end.
"One of our important players was down with injury and we are hoping that she recovers for our next match," said Indian coach Harjinder Singh. "We lost to a very strong team with a good strategy."
"India has made rapid strides and their improvement is amazing," said Chou Tai-Ying, coach of Chinese Taipei. "They played a great game."
14.Dutta Ray Trophy (Under-21) Trophy - Group B: Karnataka 3-1 Mizoram - Goals: 1-0,3-0 D Raju (8',68'), 2-0 Joseph Daniel (25'), 3-1 Samson Ramengmawia (75').
Thiruvananthapuram District Super Division: Kerala State Electricity Board 1-0 Keltron FC - Goal: 1-0 Ramesh (80').
Thiruvananthapuram District Super Division: Titanium XI 2-0 St. George's FC - Goals: 1-0 Boniface (26'),2-0 Ebin Rose (36').

Note-1: Earlier reports suggested that IM Vijayan could be signing for his former club JCT Mills and go back to play for the Sukhvinder Singh coached Phagwara Millmen, but Vijayan today confirmed to IndianFootball.Com that he will be signing for Calcutta giants East Bengal Club for the new season. East Bengal have further retained Chandan Das, who had held talks with Mohammedan Sporting about a possible Maidan switch, and the club also signed goalkeeper Abhra Mondal from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. Meanwhile Nitin Pradhan, joining Mohammedan Sporting, along with Madhab Das, Sujoy Dutta and Bhola Prasad were released. East Bengal are also taking a wait-and-watch approach on foreigners. If needed the local season would be played without foreigners and the club is trying to bring back Nigerian Mike Okoro, but he is said to be demanding a hefty salary.
Meanwhile Mohun Bagan AC assistant secretary Balaram Chowdhury left for Nigeria to secure the services of Nigerian sharpshooter Ranty Martins Soleye. Having initially shown interested to sign for Bagan, Ranty has increased his demand exorbitantly, but still Bagan are trying to sign him. With Brazilian defender Eduardo Chacon Coelho Lacerda retained for the moment, a striker from Nigeria seems what Bagan want for the local season. For the NFL a readjustment might be taken.
Relegated NFL side Tollygunge Agragami retained keeper Proloy Datta and midfielder Suman Datta besides signing Amar Deb from City AC.
It looks like finally clubs are watching who they are signing as foreigners.
Note-2: The AFC is set to launch a new competition for emerging national teams, the AFC Challenge Cup. That was decided in the Organising Committee for AFC Competitions for the Emerging Countries today in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The first AFC Challenge Cup to be held in 2006 is a competition for national teams of 17 emerging nations with invitations also to be extended to India and Bangladesh, who are actually in the developing nations bracked. The south Asian duo would be invited to give them continental competition, which they otherwise do not get.
The 17 emerging nations are: Afghanistan, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, Chinese Taipei, Guam, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Macau, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Timor Leste.
How many teams would finally take part isn't known yet, but expectations are that some teams will pull out.
All expenses would be paid by the AFC for the competition.
Note-3: Captain of the 1956 Olympic Indian football team Samar Banerjee was hospitalised today in Calcutta. Badru as Samar is called was a striker for Mohun Bagan in his prime.
Note-4: The Assam state football team will go on a 10 day trip to neighbouring Meghalaya to play friendly matches against Shillong-based sides Lajong SC and Assam Regimental Centre as part of their third phase preparation. The 30 probables would be accompanied by chief coach Gautam Sarkar and assistant coach Pradip Brahma.

The latest from Pakistan:
14.Dutta Ray Trophy (Under-21) Trophy - Group A: Services 4-0 Delhi - Goals: 1-0 Rakesh Basumatary (17'), 2-0 Karaj Singh (42'), 3-0 Mahesh Rai (52'), 4-0 Mandeep Singh (87').
Thiruvananthapuram District Super Division: State Bank of Travancore 1-0 Coastal Club - Goal: 1-0 Martyn John (61').
Note-1: The start of the Mumbai Super Division has been postponed, and is now scheduled to start on June 20.
Further Golden Gunners' request to be allowed to compete in the Mumbai Elite Division, their reason being that they have top-quality players, has been accepted by the Mumbai District FA. The request could only be met by the MDFA as promoted Mumbai Port Trust had put in a request to be demoted to Super Division, as they felt they couldn't compete in the Elite Division. Hence Golden Gunners will play Elite, and MPT in Super.
Besides the change of teams in the top two divisions as the transfer season is still on, the Super Division has been postponed as many sides are still recruiting players.
Note-2: It seems to happen again and again to the Guwahati Sports Association when they try to organise their football leagues and tournaments. This time the season-opening first Nripendra Narayan Bhattacharjee Trophy (former MM Choudhury Trophy) set to start on June 19 is in doubt as the Nehru Stadium might not be available due to unavoidable circumstances. And like everytime such a situation arises, the demand for an own GSA football stadium in the Assam capital is made. But it looks with no change.

International Friendly - Quetta: Pakistan 1-1 INDIA - Goals: 0-1 Sunil Chetri (65'), 1-1 Muhammad Essa (81').
In the first match of the first-ever Pakistan-India Football Series, named the 'National Bank Football Cup 2005', the hosts Pakistan held their guests India to a one-all draw infront of a capacity crowd at the Ayub Stadium, Quetta.
Both teams made a nervous start to the match, still the Indian team had more of the action. The new formed young Indian team, which had four debutants in the side, was lead by captain Shanmugam Venkatesh and Climax Lawrence in midfield, who got able support from Clifford Miranda on the left wing, while Surkumar Singh and Syed Rahim Nabi played in tandem on the right. Strikers Abhishek Yadav and Sunil Chetri were set-up a number of times, but the best chance of the first half came Clifford Miranda's way, but his shot went wide of the keeper Jaffar Khan. Pakistan's best chance was wasted by Muhammad Essa on the half hour mark.
India came out of the break with an urge to take the lead. The tonic of coach Sukhvinder Singh seemed to work as the Indians increased their workrate and also the pressure on the Pakistani defence, who had so far stood tall. Striker Sunil Chetri had to be treated after being fouled by a Pakistan defender in the 63.minute, but it was an limping Chetri who gave India the lead only two minutes later with a great strike. Chetri tried an one-two with substitute Abdul Hakkim, the ball fell to Climax Lawrence, who attempted a shot, but the shot was deflected off Tanveer Ahmed into Chetri's path. The young forward spun around instantly after collecting the ball and shot low past Jaffar Khan's right. It was the last thing that Chetri did in today's match as he was substituted directly after the goal due to the injury suffered before. On came midfielder Sukhwinder Singh and India took a more defensive approach, and seemed content to defend their now one goal cushion. Pakistan now down by a goal suddenly woke-up as if they earlier would have been happy with a goalless draw. And the complexion of the game changed with India suddenly in the defensive and Pakistan searching for the equaliser. India goalkeeper Satish Kumar denied Pakistan the equaliser in the 73.minute, before Sukhwinder Singh fired a left-footer shot from 25 yards out, just missing the target, which would have won the match for India. The equaliser came in the 81.minute of a wonderful freekick by Pakistani midfielder Muhammad Essa, who was playing in his home province of Balochistan. The match ended in a draw as neither side used the build-ups they created for their strikers.
In the end the young Indian team missed a top striker, who could score of the created chances, otherwise the story would have been different. Meanwhile the Pakistanis drew a better opponent with heart and vocal crowd support. In the end it was a derby and maybe a new rivalry on the football pitch was started today in Quetta between Pakistan and India.
Pakistan vice-captain Muhammad Essa told reporters after the match, "I think it was a good result for both the teams and sets up the series nicely. Naturally, the players from both the sides were a bit tensed but I expect much improved play in the remaining two games."
Meanwhile India captain Shanmugam Venkatesh was left to rue missed opportunities. "We missed a couple of scoring opportunities but I am overall satisfied with the way we played. Naturally, I would like to see more chances being converted in the next two games."

AFC Women's Championship 2005 Qualifiers - Hanoi - Group B: INDIA 10-0 Guam - Goals: 1-0 Sradhanjali Samanta Ray (23'), 2-0,3-0,8-0,9-0,10-0 Sujata Kar (36',38',67',77',84'), 4-0 Pinky Bombal Magar (42'), 5-0,6-0 Tababi Devi (50',53'), 7-0 Oinam Bem Bem (58').
Report courtesy of the AFC: Sujata Kar unleashed five goals as India rolled over Guam 10-0 in the AFC Women's Championship qualifiers here late Sunday at the My Dinh Stadium.
According to the information on www-the-afc.com, Thangam Tababi Devi hit a brace, while Sradhanjali Ray, Pinky Bombal Magar and Oinam Bem Bem Devi supplied individual goals towards the rout.
India dominated in both halves of the Group B match and shut Guam out completely. There was excellent co-ordination among the Indian women and Ray kicked off the demolition job in the 23rd minute. Then Kar got into her act and scored her first goal in the 36th minute and grabbed her double two minutes later.
Magar added the fourth goal three minutes from half time and, after the restart, Tababi Devi blasted two goals in quick succession in the 50th and 53rd minutes.
Oinam Bem Bem also got on the scoresheet five minutes later and Kar weighed in with her third goal in the 67th minute. She tallied her fourth after 10 minutes and bulged the net for her fifth with six minutes left on
the clock.
But the massive Indian win was not enough to satisfy coach Harjinder Singh. "Although we won I am not satisfied. The next game against Chinese Taipei will be a big challenge," said Singh. "We have brought our young players here to expose them to high-quality matches to prepare for the future."

After the trashing at the hands of East Bengal Club, the Vasco U19 manager Milind Salkar talking to IndianFootball.Com said, "This competition is a sham from the AIFF. It serves no purpose. We are being penalised for sticking to the rules, and fielding U-19 players - some of them are even 16 and 17 years old. And some players in East Bengal have been playing U-19 for the last three years. There should be a level playing field, otherwise the purpose is lost. My advise would be that the AIFF should make medical tests mandatory for every player before such tournaments start, to verify age".
Yesterday, Salgaocar coach Micdomio Rebello had also alleged that Mohun Bagan had fielded a few overaged players after his team lost 7-1 to them in the first semifinal.

Note-2: Goa Professional League side Cabral Sports Club have pulled out of this seasons Pro League and even disbanded their team as per a letter to the GFA from Cabral SC President Francisco Cabral.
The club was unhappy about the AIFF's decision yesterday to allow foreigners again to play in the 2.Division NFL, as the club was taken a chance to gain promotion to the Premier Division. And due to financial restrictions and a low budget the club had lost most of their key players and are left without a competitive team.
With Churchill Brothers threatening to disband their team as well, the Goa FA could be faced with the closure of two top level clubs in the state.

The much anticipated AIFF executive committee meeting was held today in the capital New Delhi and under pressure from the two most active state FAs (Bengal & Goa) and the top clubs of the country, the AIFF did not go ahead to ban foreigners from playing in local leagues and tournaments. The current regulations will remain in force with a small modification. Foreigners will be allowed back into the 2.Division National League with two allowed per match, against three in the Premier Division of the National League.
As per the new regulations, clubs can sign and play three foreigners in the NFL and Federation Cup. In the 2.Division two foreigners can be signed and play. If and then the new 3.Division is started no foreigners will be allowed to play in them. Meanwhile in local league and tournament two foreigners can be signed and also simultaneously play. But if state FAs want to reduce the number from two to one or no foreigner, then they are allowed to do so.
As expected a task force will soon be formed to prepare a report on the formation of a professional Indian league. But the strength of the 10th National League was not discussed, if it would stay 10 teams or maybe increased back to 12.
The TV rights were also discussed, but no decision taken as an evaluation committee would have to look into the matter before a final decision is taken.
Meanwhile coach Sukhwinder Singh would continue to be in charge of the under-23 team until the 2006 Doha Asian Games. But the AIFF would continue to look for a foreign coach for the senior team or the junior set-up.
A lot was expected and had been read into today's executive meeting, but afterwards it looks like the future of Indian football wasn't decided today. One surely has to question why foreigners are allowed back into the 2.Division, which was held very successsfully this season without any foreigners and if all the buzz on banning foreigners was just a lot of hot air. Some things sadly don't seem to change...

Note-1: The much-awaited AIFF executive committee meeting will be held tomorrow in New Delhi to decide a number of issues, which will be key to the future of Indian football. The issues range from professional league to foreigners to TV rights.
The most debated issue of the last few days is the participation of foreigners in state FA organised leagues and tournaments. While the AIFF and most state FAs are in favour of a ban of foreigners playing in India except in the Premier Division of the National League, there is heavy opposition from West Bengal and Goa lead by the state FAs and supported by the top clubs of the two states. A conpromise with the number of foreigners reduced from two to one is also unlikely.
Amongst the further issues to be discussed is the formation of an Indian Professional League. It looks like 2007 will be the year the league starts and a task force to look into the formation of the professional league is likely to be set-up.
The TV rights for the next three to five years are also set to be decided. Amongst the bidders are channels ESPN-Star Sports, newly launched Zee Sports and NDTV plus others. Who will get the rights is not clear at the moment.
Other issues will be the professionalisation of the AIFF, marketing of the game and a review of the 9th National League will be presented.
Note-2: We made guesses about it yesterday, but today it was confirmed that Mahindra United defender Covan Lawrence has signed two contract with his current club and East Bengal Club. Mahindra United have refused to give a no objection certificate for Covan to shift to East Bengal and the Mumbai giants would go to the Players Status Committee, if needed, to keep Covan as their player as he is said to have a valid contract.
Note-3: Calcutta giants East Bengal Club today announced a three year partnership with US Californian-based sports kit maker Pony International. For East Bengal this announcement meant the end of their two year partnership with Reebok and their third contract with a kit maker after they had had an initial deal with Adidas. For Pony it is their first venture in India.

Thiruvananthapuram District Super Division: Kerala State Electricity Board 1-0 Coastal Club - Goal: 1-0 Ranjith (58').
Note-1: Might Churchill Brothers SC disband and close down their football team?
Well this is the threath from the Churchill management that if the club is not retained in the elite NFL, they then would pull out their team from the Goa Pro League. The club is hoping for a backdoor entry to stay in the NFL and club patron Churchill Alemao has used his personal relationship with party colleague PR Das Munshi to request the AIFF president to consider his clubs plight.
So far Churchill have not signed any players for the new season, but have a few players officially under contract who had signed two year contracts last season. The club management is supposed to meet the 2004/05 season team on June 9 and decide on further course to action, to either continue or have no team.
It seems like history is repeating itself within Indian football. Then in April 1998, days after I had just started IndianFootball.Com, Churchill Brothers threathened to close down their team, if they weren't allowed to stay in the NFL. They had finished ninth in the then 10 team NFL and were supposed to get relegated, but then the AIFF decided to expand the NFL to 12 and Churchill Brothers along with Mahindra&Mahindra SC stayed in the league.
Note-2: It only seemed to be a matter of time until when a player would sign contract with two different clubs for the new season and get himself into troubles. Initially the name Covan Lawrence did the round as the Mahindra defender is said to have another year of his contract to go with the Mumbai giants and also he was in talks with East Bengal. But now Salgaocar duo - defender John Charles Dias and midfielder Bernard Pires - have done the same in signing for two clubs. While Dias has signed for Dempo SC and East Bengal, Pires has resigned with Salgaocar and then for East Bengal. It looks like the case could go to the Players Status Committee of the AIFF, if the clubs and the players do not sort out the issue themselves.
Note-3: In latest transfers defender Bhola Dey left Mohun Bagan and joined Mohammedan Sporting Club. Bhola had been on loan at Fransa FC for the most of the NFL. Sporting also retained Madhusudan Majumdar.
Meanwhile Mohun Bagan retained seasoned Basudeb Mondal and young winger Manas Das, who both resigned for the green-and-maroon today.
Further confirmed transfers today were those of Fransa keeper Kalyan Chaubey and Churchill Brothers Brazilian Marcos Pereira to JCT Mills, who had earlier recruited Renedy Singh and Sunil Chetri from Mohun Bagan. The Phagwara Millmen seem to become a potent force again.
Delhi goalkeeper Vinay Singh has meanwhile left Churchill Brothers to join Sporting Clube de Goa. Sporting Clube are also set to retain much sought after Joseph Pereira, while Clifford Miranda is likely to remain with Dempo SC. Meanwhile striker Sebastiao Endro also joined Dempo SC.
Note-4: The Kerala FA will consult their top clubs on the foreigners ban issue before wednesday's AIFF executive meeting, but it looks likely they will support the ban as it would help their clubs, who are mainly government or company clubs often with no foreigners playing for them. Also in favour of the ban is new club Viva Kerala, who had signed a foreigner last season.

14.Dutta Ray Trophy (Under-21) Trophy - South Zone Qualifiers: Karnataka 1-0 Kerala - Goal: 1-0 D Raju (38').
Note-1: It looks like the AIFF will go head-to-head against West Bengal & Goa on the foreigners issue at the AIFF's executive meeting on June 8. And as it looks at the moment, the AIFF has the support of most state FAs on the issue as most of them do not have too strong local (state/city) leagues or have none at all. And therefore the IFA and GFA are set to join hands with the support of their professional clubs.
The point of discussion is where is Indian football heading? The foreigners are a problem of sorts, but are also the flavour in the club scene. Especially strikers are signed by the clubs, which leaves nearly no place for Indian strikers. And this has an implication on the national team, where besides Baichung Bhutia no one has really made a mark since IM Vijayan left.
On Friday the GFA held a meeting with club officials on request of the eight Goa Pro League clubs at their Panaji headquarters. The clubs want the GFA to convey to the AIFF their resolution "no change in respect of eligibility of foreign players participating in the Goa Professional League should be made". And if any such change was contemplated, then the AIFF should interact with the clubs and get their views on the topic. Also some clubs said, they would face problems as some had long-term contracts with foreign players. The GFA supported their top clubs as they feared of sponsorship problems for the Pro League and the Governor's Cup, if the foreigners could no longer take part.
On Saturday in Calcutta the IFA held their emergency meeting with representatives from top clubs East Bengal, Mohun Bagan and Mohammedan Sporting amongst others present. The IFA unanimously passed a resolution in favour of foreign participation in the new Calcutta Premier League, which would start as an eight team semi-professional league. Like in Goa the top clubs have made a petition to their parent body to represent their interests at the AIFF executive body meeting and IFA secretary Subrata Datta is on the lines of the top clubs.
In an earlier IFA meeting, foreigners had been banned from playing in local Calcutta leagues below the new Premier League from the 2005 season onwards. This decision had been taken as many foreigners were playing for lower division clubs.
It is interesting to see that Calcutta and Goa clubs are coming together to fight as they see it a common cause, after heavy battles during the just finished season, while the IFA and GFA have been working together for some time now.
A problem the clubs also mentioned is the length of contracts for foreign players. As per FIFA rules clubs have to sign a player for a minimum period of six month's, but the AIFF is trying to make the new 10 team NFL a three month affair, meaning the clubs would have to pay salaries for double the time they are actually playing for them.
Note-2: The Transfer season is on across India, here the latest updates from the last few days on players on the move or staying with their clubs.
NFL and Fed Cup champions Dempo SC have signed a deal with international Climax Lawrence, who returns to Goa after a season with East Bengal and striker Sebastiao Endro from Fransa FC. Dempo is also trying to sign Jules Alberto Dias, who had a strong comeback season with Fransa FC, which earned him a place in the Indian team for the Pakistan tour.
Impressive Sporting Clube de Goa have signed Hardip Singh Saini from Goan rivals Fransa FC. The Super Cup champions are likely to lose their their key striker Nigerian MacPherlin Dudu Omagbemi. Dudu is set to go on trials at US MLS club New York/New Jersey Metro Stars and at Malysian club Perak FC. Dudu wants to move on and has a dream to play in Europe and for the Nigerian national team, for which he has to leave India. If he returns, Goa and Sporting Clube would be his first option.
East Bengal have signed former players goalkeeper Naseem Akhtar and midfielder Kalia Kulothungan both from Mahindra United.
Salgaocar SC who haven't had a too good season on the national circuit have made considerable gains on the transfer market. The big catch was international goalkeeper Sangram Mukherjee from East Bengal Club. Further Salgaocar retained Juje Siddi and Gumpe Rime as their other keepers. Salgaocar further signed defender Kamal Thapa and talented striker Anthony Pereira both from Vasco SC, while also TV Buji Kumar signed for them from Fransa FC. Salgaocar are also trying to sign Vasco defender Agnelo Colaco.
Midfielder Renedy Singh signed for JCT Mills, leaving Calcutta after having a not too good season, which was plagued by injury. Sunil Chetri is also said to have joint the Phagwara Millmen from Mohun Bagan.
Mohun Bagan are trying to confirm Nigerian striker Ranty Martins Soleye as a new signing, but nothing has been finalised so far. Bagan will have Sanjeev Kumar Maria back at the club, while AS Firoze is also set to sign for them from Fransa FC along with Sanjay Parte from Churchill Brothers. Bagan meanwhile retained Imran Khan, Manitombi Singh, Tomba Singh, Dharamjit Singh, Mehtab Hussain and Jerry Zirsanga, while keepers Prasanto Dora and Subrata Pal are also set to stay with the green-and-maroon. But the transfer of Yakubu Yusif to Bagan from Churchill Brothers looks more than unlikely as Mahindra seem seriously interested in the Ghanian striker. Mahindra meanwhile signed Gouramangi Moirangthem Singh from Dempo SC.
Viva Kerala, who had a successful first season of existance in Kerala, are out to strengthen their team in their bid to push for a 2.Division NFL place. The trio of Robin Joseph, Sumesh and Feroze PA have been signed from Chennai Customs, while goalkeeper Mehrooz has been signed from Goa. The club has also retained captain Dhanarajan; midfielders Manoharan and Denson Devadas; forwards Javed, Jackson Sebastain, R Rajesh; and second goalkeeper Saju Cherian. The club is on the lookout to sign some U21 players from the Kerala team, while they are also searching for strikers outside Kerala. The club has meanwhile released ten of their players, amongst them African Zachariah Akpeji; while seasoned TK Chathunni has been retained as coach.

But Mohun Bagan claim that Zubair has signed the Inter-State Transfer Form for Bagan, but Sporting claim to have signed a two year contract with the player earlier. It looks like Zubair's case could go to the Players Status committee.
Meanwhile in Inter-State Transfers striker Dipendu Biswas has decided to return to Calcutta, after a rather unsuccessful cut-short stint with Mahindra United in Mumbai. Bagan are also trying to convince Ashim Biswas to stay with them, though the Indian striker has a good offer from Dempo SC.
