"I was told that it was a punishment for using foul language against the referee after the match against Bangladesh on Friday," informed Constantine. "Believe me I did not abuse him at all. I only questioned the red card to Deepak Mondal in the dying stages of the match especially as there were two other defenders behind him."

Note-1: Improvement of Indian soccer seems to be getting priority worldwide. After an Asian Football Confederation delegation visited various cities to study the available infrastructure, FIFA has decided to send a delegation to India and also give subsidies. The aid is aimed at improving Indian soccer standards, keeping in mind the Athens Olympic Games and 2010 World Cup. AIFF president Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi said that after the visit of the FIFA delegation, the AIFF will select a group of players for long-term training. The expenses for the programme will be borne by the AIFF. The FIFA representatives will also meet corporate houses and government officials.
Note-2: Mohun Bagan loged a protest after their Calcutta Super Division match against Mohammedan Sporting. Sporting fielded four players from the India U20 team, which is currently preparing for the AFC U20 Championship. Striker Rahim Nabi, goalkeeper Imran Khan, medio Bhubhan Joshi and defender Amandeep Singh, played in today's derby against Bagan and it was largely due to the presence of these players that the team was believed to have given a good performance. IFA secretary and India U20 project director, Ranjit Gupta said, "Mohun Bagan have lodged a protest with the IFA." Mohameddans collected 28 points against Bagan's 26 to earn themselves a right to be in the play-off against East Bengal for the super league title. The AIFF secretary, Alberto Colaco said he had asked the under-20 coach Islam Akhmedov to call back the players, but it was too late. "The coach has given me his reasons. Now let us see what happens," he said. Meanwhile Bagan secretary, Anjan Mitra said: "This is gross injustice. We have lodged an official protest. There was no official papers for the release of the players. We could have played Baichung in the derby match against East Bengal but we did not because we believe in upholding the rules."

Note-1: Arun Malhotra has failed two dope test. AIFF president Dasmunshi said the test was conducted Wednesday at the SAI dope test centre in New Delhi. "We gave him another chance and took him for a retest but he has failed that too," Dasmunshi said. The AIFF had held him back from the 20-member squad after getting information from SAI that he tested positive for a banned substance ahead of the team's departure on Sunday. "He told me that some one-and-a-half month back he suffered a hamstring injury and one doctor in Jammu administered him some injection," Dasmunshi said. The name of the banned substance for which the player tested positive was not immediately known. Calcutta Super Division: Mohammedan Sporting 5-0 Tollygunge Agragami
Note-1: The Indian Football Association will write to the AIFF urging the inclusion of Mohammedan Sporting Club, doing quite well in Calcutta's Super Division League, in the Premier Division of the forthcoming edition of the National League. The IFA, however, is aware that a decision on this is contingent upon the AIFF executive committee's approval. It says that the club have already been told as much. IFA joint-secretary, Ranjit Gupta said that he would write to the AIFF after the completion of the Super Division League recommending the move, but "since the NFL has no institutionalised system of wild cards, it would be up to the AIFF's executive committee to accept, or reject, them." Mr Gupta agreed that the popularity of MSC would boost the National League much in the same way as Calcuta football looked brighter this year, but was of the opinion that the club's prolonged fallen form had affected their chances in the past.
