forthcoming Asian Games in September/October. The first coaching camp will be held at Imphal from July 7. Gautam Sarkar will

Former India international Ashim Mallick who played for Calcutta Maidan clubs Mohun Bagan and East Bengal in 1960s and
early 70s died here today, according to family sources. He was 59 and is survived by his wife and daughter.

Baichung Bhutia and Jo Paul Ancheri are among the 33 probables shortlisted by the AIFF for the coaching camp in
preparation for the Asian Games to be held in Busan (South Korea) in September/October. The probables include four
goalkeepers, ten defenders, ten midfielders and nine forwards. The camp will commence from July 6 in Jamshedpur under the
supervision of new chief coach Stephen Constantine. Sukhwinder Singh and Santo Mitra are the technical and project director.

Mohun Bagan AC announced today that Brazilian ace Jose Ramirez Barreto would continue with the Calcutta club for another
season. Barreto would arrive next week to renew his contract and end the speculation were he would continue his career.

Newly appointed India coach Stephen Constantine was presented by the AIFF at a press conference in Calcutta today.
Constantine's first asignment would be the Asian Games in Busan, South Korea in September/October 2002, for which he will
have nearly three month's to prepare the team. The Asian Games preparations start on July 6 at Jamshedpur, where the Tata
Football Academy would host the first camp with the 34 probables. In early-August the team would participate in an
eight-nation tournament in Vietnam, while on the way back test matches against good Asian sides are in the planning stage.
After a weeks break, the team would meet again for the second camp.
Among the 34 probables would be five over-23 players - Baichung Bhutia, Jo Paul Ancheri, Jules Alberto, Khalid Jamil and
Virender Singh - from whom three can be chosen for the Asian Games. The other 29 players, all under-23 have been chosen but
the names were not released, as their ages was being varified.
Constantine would be assisted in the Asian Games project, by Sukhwinder Singh as technical director, Aloke Mukherjee as
assistant coach, Santo Mitra as project director and the general secretary Alberto Colaco himself.
AIFF secretary also announced that the AIFF was trying to organise an exposure tour to Germany in August for the under-17
national team, as preparation for the Asian under-17 Cup. The tour is being organised by indianfootball.com but so far the
AIFF has not taken a final decision.
The Santosh Trophy players regulation has been changed.It is entirely up to the players to decide which state he would
represent. If a player wants to play for his home state, despite being professionally active in another, he will now be
allowed to do so.

Under no fanfare at all, Stephen Constantine was appointed "Indian national football coach" today in Calcutta.
Constantine had an hour long meeting with the AIFF top brass, among them the AIFF secretary Alberto Colaco, technical
director Sukhwinder Singh, project director Santo Mitra and IFA secretary Ranjit Gupta. The details of the meeting were not
released.

With 12 players Mohun Bagan under coach Subrata Bhattacharya started their pre-season training at their home Ground.
To prepare for the Asian Champions League Mohun Bagan will play a tournament in Bangladesh from July 1 to 9.

An irate mob of football fans ransacked the office of the Kerala State Electricity Board at Kalikavu in Malappuram
district in protest against the frequent power failures during the World Cup telecast. According to the information received,
the incident took place when a protest march organised by the local people turned violent. The soccer-crazy people stormed
the KSEB office and manhandled two officials. Malappuram, known as the 'soccer capital' of Kerala, is in the grip of a soccer
fever. The KSEB had made elaborate arrangements for uninterrupted power supply during the live telecast period to prevent any
violent reaction from the public. Reports said many cinema theatres have started screening football matches by suspending the
matinee show for the entire World Cup season. A number of towns in the districts witnessed traffic blocks during the past few
days as fans thronged roadsides to witness the soccer action live on TV. After every match, they took victory marches in each
locality.
