GREAT NEWS from Bangalore: AR Khaleel, the AIFF treasurer and the president of the Karnataka State Football Association
announced at the KSFA general meeting today that the construction of the National Academy will begin as soon as FIFA will
soon decide on the contractor and architect for the building. Khaleel further said construction work would begin "within a
month or two". The whole construction would be funded from the FIFA Goal Project.
The other part of the project - the construction of the headquarters of the AIFF in Delhi, called AIFF House, is also
expected to get underway at the same time. The government has already sanctioned "half-an-acre of land" for the building of
the house in Delhi.
The National Academy will be constructed at the vacant South end of the Bangalore Football Stadium. The area was formerly
a slum, but after litigation was cleared in 1997. The three-storied Academy building will thus complete the stands and is
expected to raise the seating capacity of the Stadium considerably. Moreover, unlike the East and North stands, spectators at
the south gallery will be sheltered from the elements. Two storeys of the building is devoted to a gymnasium, classrooms,
dormitories, a pantry and washrooms. The third floor is devoted entirely to lodging and consists of 15 bed rooms, each of
which can comfortably house six players. Separate rooms for coaches and managers have also been planned.

overseas officials it will be quite a precedent. "Maldives had approached us with a proposal of exchanging referees but we
couldn't oblige with the league in progress. We will discuss this with other SAFF nations in Kuala Lumpur," Mr Colaco said.

Note-1: After the AIFF found a new international marketing company in STRATA Sports Marketing from London, willing to handle its domestic scene, the AIFF might be in trouble again. Calcutta-based, Leisure Sports Management, has cried foul at the handling of commercial rights, saying it was awarded to a company which wasn't part of the original bidding process, and gave the AIFF a week to reply before taking action. According to LSM, LSM and Procam from Mumbai had been awarded the rights and LSM had brought in STRATA as a possible foreign partner. Now STRATA is working with the AIFF and Procam but maybe not any longer with LSM. So the company wants to get its share of the increased finances going to come into Indian football, if STRATA is able to handle the things properly.

Note-1: A judge has placed the 2.division English club Bury FC, for which Baichung Bhutia plays for, into receivership, a potential first step out of the crisis. The club faces a court hearing in two weeks to decide if it will be allowed to finish the season as creditors demand repayment of a one million Pound mortgage. "We were appointed joint administrators of Bury FC on March 1, 2002 by order of the court," RSM Robson Rhodes, joint administrator said. "The company is continuing to trade under our management so that the disposal of the business as a going concern can be investigated." Matt Dunham, a partner with RSM Robson Rhodes, said he faces a court appearance in two weeks that could signal the end of the club if the ruling goes against it. "I've got to go back to the court in two weeks to try to get the administration extended to the end of the season," Dunham said. "If we don't get that then we would go into liquidation and we would probably have to stop playing immediately." Dunham said the two weeks could give the receivers time to line up "funding until the end of the season." Dunham said two parties have expressed interest in buying the club with negotiations ongoing over the next two weeks.
