Note-1: All matches of the National football championship for the Santosh Trophy will be held in three
venues across Mumbai from November 1 to 17 after arrangements at Nagpur, the original choice as venue, were found
unsatisfactory.
In all, 32 teams will participate in this year to be played on league-cum-knockout basis, AIFF secretary Alberto Colaco
informed, after releasing the draw.
Colaco had inspected the two venues (Kamptee and Police Grounds) at Nagpur and found the arrangements unsatisfactory.
The teams in first round league, to be played from November 1 to 6, have been divided into eight groups. The top team
from each group will qualify for the last eight along with Kerala, Bengal, Maharashtra and Goa, who are directly seeded into

Former Indian international Pem Dorji passed away at a Calcutta nursing home this evening, after having lost his fight
against cancer. He was aged 42. Dorji had come to Calcutta from Sikkim to play for the elite Maidan clubs and then even went
on to play for India.
In the last few month's Dorji had come into trouble to finance his treatment but then he was helped by former teammates
and wellwishers. Among them India captain Baichung Bhutia, who had organised charity matches in Sikkim this summer.

Note-1: The Asian Football Confederation has sought an official explanation from the AIFF on how East Bengal were declared winners of the IFA Shield tournament. This promped the AIFF secretary, Alberto Colaco, to sent a letter to IFA seeking details of the referees' and match commissioner's report, and also the basis on which the Shield champions were decided. He also asked what action the IFA had taken against those guilty of the violence that took place during the IFA Shield final. It may be recalled that the IFA secretary Ranjit Gupta had informed the Press that they had awarded the title to East Bengal and scratched Palmeiras on the basis of video footage of the match.

EAST BENGAL CLUB have been declared '2001 IFA-Shield champions' after an hour-long IFA meeting in Calcutta today.
Brazilian club Palmeiras have been disqualified from the tournament for "gross act of indiscipline" and their opponents
declared champions according to sections 12 a, b, and c of the tournament rules.
IFA joint-secretary Ranjit Gupta also announced at a press briefing that Palmeiras would also be scraped from the

intercontinental flights.
Note-2: The 9th South Asian Federation Games, which had been postponed in the wake of terrorist strikes in the United States, have been rescheduled for March-April 2002, the organising officials said in Islamabad on Saturday. The games, which were originally scheduled to be held in Islamabad from October 6 to 16, will now be held from March 30 to April 8, 2002. The decision was taken at an executive meeting of the South Asian Sports Federation in Rawalpindi on Saturday where officials of five of the seven participating countries were present, Col Mohammad Yahya, one of the directors of the SAF Games said. India and Nepal did not send their representatives. While Nepal had expressed its inability to send any official, India had sought the postponement of the meeting, he said.

Note-1: PTI Reports: A final decision to host Santosh Trophy national football championship by the Nagpur District FA is likely to be taken today in Mumbai, according to NDFA and Western Indian Football Association secretary Haresh Vora. Vora said That AIFF's president Priya Ranjan Das Munshi and secretary Alberto Colaco will meet WIFA president Praful Patel to discuss the sponsorship issue. The national event will require about Rs 5.000.000 and AIFF has agreed to give Rs 2.000.000. The NDFA finds rest of the money too big to raise, Vora said adding their president Atal Bahadur Singh had already conveyed inability to raise this much amount. Once the sponsorship issue is settled, NDFA can think of finalising the venue for the prestigious meet, Vora said. The dates initially proposed were from November 6 to 26 but since there is hardly any time left for preparations, NDFA may seek fresh dates, he added. He said the soccer body here was capable of hosting the national championship with some matches being played in the districts too.
