Note-1: The AIFF has given the green signal for conducting the Federation Cup in Chennai from August 15 to 30. The Tamil Nadu state government had assured its fullest cooperation for the successful conduct of the tournament being held after a gap of three year, AIFF President Das Munshi told a press conference in Chennai.
Das Munshi said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha had assured him of all help when he met her this morning. The Chief Minister had also agreed to look into the matter of proper maintenance of the playing area and the Nehru stadium. He said the ground, where work is on a war footing to get the turf readied for the tournament, was inspected by the AIFF Secretary, Alberto Colaco and he was satisfied with it. The facilities at the stadium would be fully ready by August 10.
The Federation Cup will have 20 teams participating and Integral Coach Factory had been included in place of Tata Football Academy, leaving for Germany on an exposure tour.

Note-2: The AIFF has approved striker I M Vijayan's transfer to play for East Bengal, even as its executive committee recommended action against his former club FC Kochin for 'suppressing facts' on the player's participation in a tournament in Bangladesh last year.
"The federation has decided not to punish or spoil the career of a player. In Vijayan's case, it has been proved that he was innocent and ignorant of the rules but the executive felt that FC Kochin, the club with which Vijayan was registered earlier, had suppressed the facts," AIFF President, Das Munshi told the press.
Das Munshi said, "FC Kochin did not behave properly with the federation. Lot of facts were not disclosed by the club on Vijayan's participation in Bangladesh tournament."
Alberto Colaco, secretary of AIFF, said, "Vijayan has been asked to pay a penalty of Rs 50,000 for his error in playing for a foreign team without proper transfer certificate." He said the player had been given time for paying the amount.
This payment has been done by Vijayan's new club East Bengal, who will deduct this sum from Vijayan's salary.
Meanwhile, the suspension of Ratan Singh who was penalised for not participating in the camp to select the India team for Merdeka Cup was lifted after the player tendered an apology to the AIFF.

Note-3: Bengal Mumbai FC will forever discard jersey No. 14 as a mark of respect for Charles Esheku who died Saturday after collapsing on the field during a Mumbai Harwood League match against Income Tax at the Cooperage. The Nigerian insisted on wearing the No. 14 shirt while playing for BMFC.

Note-1: Chima Okerie, a Nigerian himself, is planning to approach the AIFF to organise a benefit match for Bengal Mumbai FC defender Charles, who collapsed and died while playing in the Mumbai Harwood league yesterday.
The star striker, who landed today in Mumbai to play for BMFC, felt the match should be played between an India XI and a team comprising Nigerian footballers playing in India. "The match could be played before the start of the Afro-Asian Games and the proceeds would go to Charles' family back in Nigeria", he said.
Speaking from Chennai, the AIFF secretary Alberto Colaco welcomed the idea and added, "Western India Football Association should take the initiative. We also have to discuss with national coach Sukhwinder Singh in this regard."

Note-1: Sunil Warrier reports about the "Nigerian Charles collapses, dies at Cooperage" tragedy from Mumbai:
For 42 minutes on Saturday, he agonisingly watched his forwards make a mess of a plethora of chances. And when Bengal Mumbai FC finally put ball to goal in three minutes later, Charles Ocheaga Esheku was not on the field to rejoice. He had already left for the Elysian Fields.
The 25-year-old Nigerian national, playing his first match for BMFC, collapsed at the Cooperage football ground just before half-time and was declared dead shortly after being admitted to the Bombay Hospital in Marine Lines.
Around the 42.minute, Charles, of Edo state in Nigeria, fell flat on his stomach, in a completely off-the-ball incident, during BMFC's match against Income-Tax, which was also the first tie of the Haywards 2000 Harwood League of the 2001-2002 season. Referee Victor D'Souza allowed play to continue for just short of two minutes before blowing the whistle for a foul in another incident.
Some players gathered around the prostrate Charles, who tried to raise himself but collapsed as his quivering legs gave away, immediately realised the seriousness and tried to revive him by rubbing his underfeet. Charles was stretchered out and rushed to Bombay Hospital in a taxi by the medical attendant on the field, Dr. Shriyan, and two of the players' friends. Officials of the Mumbai District Football Association and the Western India Football Association as well as BMFC managing director Krishnendu Sen and manager Shabbir Ahmed also followed close behind.
"His pupils had dilated and he was already brain dead when he was brought here," said Dr Rehan Kazi, the chief medical officer on duty at Bombay Hospital, said. "A patient can be revived upto 40 minutes in such a state. We tried very hard but he was not responding at all. He died around 6 pm due to a cardiac arrest."
In the meanwhile, the match continued, and when news filtered in at Cooperage about Charles's death, barely four minutes were remaining for the end of 90 minutes. MG Suvarna, the chairman of AIFF's referees' board, rushed to stop the match but was prevented as very short time was remaining for the end of 90 minutes.
None of Charles' teammates knew about the death and were inconsolable when they came to know about it. Especially BMFC captain Adeshina Sadiq, Charles' bosom friend, who incidentally scored the goal for his side. "How could it happen all of a sudden," said Sadiq biting his lips to control his tears. "I am quite shocked. We grew up together and were very close. He is the second amongst one brother and three sisters. I don't know how I will convey the news to them."
"Charles was very fit and played in all our practice matches," said BMFC coach Jamshed Nassiri.
"He was my very good friend and this is very sad that it had to happen on the football field," said BMFC striker Jude Odegah. Added Mr Sen: "I have been following football for a number of years but I'm too stunned to witness this incident."
After a panchanama by the Azad Maidan police officials, the body was taken to GT Hospital for a post-mortem.
The thoughts of the indianfootball.com are with the family of the player and the Bengal Mumbai FC...

Note-1: Jaydeep Basu reports in the Hindustan Times about the preparatory camp stand-off:
The Indian team's preparations for their tour of England was thrown off gear today with the AIFF succumbing to the pressure of their Bengal unit in allowing some key footballers to skip the camp.
These footballers, according to AIFF sources, will not attend the ongoing camp at Patiala. Instead, they will join the squad straightaway in Delhi on July 18.
The AIFF, initially, released a list of 25 footballers for the 10-day camp, which started at NIS, Patiala last Sunday. But till date, according to chief coach Sukhwinder Singh, only 12 players have reported for the camp. "I have no idea about when the rest of the players will join", Sukhwinder admitted. The problems started immediately after the AIFF bosses released the names of campers and left for Argentina to attend the FIFA Congress. IFA, the parent body of Bengal football and Mumbai's Mahindra United, who have 16 players together in the camp, raised a banner of revolt against the federation. Accusing the AIFF of trying to sabotage the local leagues at Kolkata and Mumbai, both demanded that not more than three players from Mohun Bagan, East Bengal and Mahindra should be called for the camp.
While Mahindra finally relented and released their players, who might reach Patiala tomorrow, IFA stuck to their gun and even threatened to bring a court injunction against the AIFF. Backed by East Bengal, who have directed their six campers not to join the national camp, IFA has managed to extract their pound of flesh.
Under the new agreement reached between the IFA joint secretary Ranjit Gupta and AIFF president PR DasMunshi, only two East Bengak youngsters, Sangram Mukherjee and Dipankar Roy will join the camp on Tuesday.
While Jo Paul Ancheri, India's skipper in Merdeka, has pulled out because of a groin injury, the two regulars, Deepak Mondal and IM Vijayan will be selected without attending the camp.
"If Bhaichung Bhutia can join the team in England, then why not Vijayan or Mondal? After all, they are also established players of the national team", said a triumphant Ranjit Gupta. "Why should my local league which has a huge sponsorship, get depleted every year for the sake of an exhibition tour", Gupta said.
As if this is not enough, East Bengal have placed their striker Bijen Singh under suspension for defying their directive of not joining the camp. With IFA supporting the club's stand, it remains to be seen how the federation tackles this ticklish issue.
While soccer officials continue to play politics, the preparations for the tour has been spoiled. Sukhwinder said, "it is impossible to practice properly with just 12 players and with no one around to tell me when the rest will arrive.
"Last time we performed well in England and fans this time will expect us to repeat the same. But that may not be possible under the current circumstances", he rued.

Note-1: The much-publicised rally to create awareness about the condition of galleries in the enclosed football grounds at the Calcutta Maidan has been called off following a government assurance that the matter will be sorted out. The decision to call off the rally was taken today after members of the IFA's core committee met West Bengal sports minister Subhas Chakraborty who gave a written commitment that work will be completed by this year end. Core committee chairman Mantoo Ghosh told reporters here that the committee was satisfied with the minister's assurance to resolve the issue which had endangered the safety of football spectators for the last three years. IFA and the leading clubs had decided to stage a rally on Thursday to whip up public awareness about the poor condition of wooden galleries in the enclosed grounds. The rally was originally scheduled for July 9 but was postponed to mobilise the support of affiliated units in the districts. Ghosh said the government had earmarked Rs 36.200.000 to construct tubular structures in the enclosed grounds and work was expected to start in October. IFA and leading clubs had expressed resentment over the "indifferent attitude" of the government in resolving the gallery issue which had led to poor turnouts for super division matches.

Note-1: Members of Bengal IFA's core committee have been invited to meet West Bengal sports minister Subhas Chakraborty tomorrow. The minister is expected to discuss IFA's proposed rally Thursday in demand of tubular structures at the three enclosed Maidan grounds. According to an IFA source, the state government has already decided to sanction Rs 36.200.000 for the tubular structures, and that an official announcement could be made by the sports minister tomorrow.
If that is indeed the case, IFA will call off the Thursday rally.

Note-1: The selection of India team players is again and again questioned by the clubs. This time, East Bengal, Mohun Bagan and Mahindra United have shown reluctance to release players for the preparatory camp for the England tour.
In an unbelievable move, the Indian Football Association (Bengal) has appealed to its parent body, the AIFF, to pick only two players from the two Calcutta giants. In a letter addressed to the AIFF secretary Alberto Colaco the IFA has argued that with key players moving out from the two big clubs, the Calcutta Super Division League will lose much of its glamour as the teams will be contesting at half the strength. The IFA joint secretary, Ranjit Gupta said that both Mohun Bagan and East Bengal have appealed to the IFA to take up the matter with the AIFF. East Bengal has six players, while Mohun Bagan has three among the 25 probables for the national camp.
In an unbelievable statement, the IFA, citing the example of Baichung Bhutia, who will be joining the team straight from his English club Bury FC, the IFA has argued that similar condition can apply to other players also.
"What is the harm if the players from Mohun Bagan and East Bengal join the team directly. Playing for their respective clubs in Super Division League, these players too will be match-ready as is the case for Bhutia," Mr Gupta said.
The IFA said that the trip to England was just an 'exposure tour' and the AIFF can thus afford to be lenient in its approach.
One has to fear that Ranjit Gupta and others in the IFA have not learned the differences of professional European pre-season training and the monsoon-hit matches at the Calcutta Maidan.
Taking the same approach as their Calcutta counterparts, Mumbai's Mahindra United too is planning a similar appeal to the AIFF. The Mumbai team has six players in the list of 25 probables and the team management, it is learnt, has sought to go IFA's way for the sake of the Mumbai Harwood League.
Reacting sharply to a suggestion that the team was not going to take part in a tournament and was just on an exposure trip, Sukhwinder said that the team that will take part in the Afro-Asian Games will be selected keeping in view the players performances in England.
The national camp had been scheduled to be held in Patiala from today until July 17 under chief coach Sukhwinder Singh but so far only 11 players have joined the camp. Among them Renedy Singh & RP Singh (both Mohun Bagan) and Virender Singh (Mahindra United).
In the case of Bijen Singh and East Bengal things seem to go out of control...
East Bengal have decided to suspend last season's captain Bijen Singh till the striker explains his continued absence from practice. The club's general-secretary Dipak Chakrabarty said a notice would be sent to the player's Calcutta residence but that would be useless as >Bijen has reported in Patiala at the preparatory camp for the national team's tour of England.
For the players sake, East Bengal Club should recheck with the AIFF and the national team staff at Patiala.

Note-2: The Gujarat State Football Association secretary, Hardev Jadeja, has been appointed as the chef-de-mission and leader of the Indian football team delegation to England. He was appointed by the president of AIFF, PR Das Munshi. Mr Jadeja is leading a team of 22 players and seven officials.

Note-1: The Sentinal Assam reports: In an unprecedented development in the football history of Assam, a promising referee Dwijen Sarma was forced to leave the Nehru Stadium during the second half of the match being played between City Police and NF Railway SC in the Super Division. Mr Sarma, who was conducting the match had to leave the playground following a verbal altercation with the players of both the teams over the issue of a penalty decision. The Guwahati Sports Association members who had organized the tournament, intervened when they saw that the verbal duel between the referee and players took a serious turn. Succumbing to the demands of the players, the GSA members replaced the referee with a lineman to conduct the match till the end. The match was halted for 19 minutes due to the incident. Several senior football referees of the state condemned the incident.

East Bengal meanwhile have protested that six of its players have been called to the camp, something they did last year as well and had forced some players to miss the tour.
