Work is being done for the conduct of India's World Cup - Asian qualifiers group 8 matches at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore.
Addressing a press conference on behalf of the Sports Minister SS Mallikarjun, who was pre-occupied, AR Khaleel, the AIFF treasurer and working chairman of the organising committee said that the a high-power committee has been set-up with the Karnataka Chief Minister SM Krishna as the patron-in-chief.
The turf at the stadium was a cause for concern with grassless patches dotting it till a couple of weeks back but with the organisers stepping up their efforts in the last few days, it looks a lot 'greener' now.
"Tickets have been nominally priced at Rs 50, 30 and 10 to enable as many people as possible to come for the games. To ensure that the telecast is not affected, the kick-off has been fixed at 16:00. Of course due to any reason if the match is delayed and the light becomes bad, floodlights will be switched on," Khaleel said.
As part of the programme to promote football, school children numbering about 50 from each school will be given free admission to the three games. All registered football clubs too will be given passes for the players (22 for each club). The entire lower and upper tier in south east wing of the stadium has been reserved for students and players with total seating capacity of 8000.
"If there is violence of any kind, FIFA will suspend the concerned national association and also ban matches at the venue. Thus precautions will be taken to ensure that spectators do not carry crackers, glass bottles, flag staffs and other dangerous objects into the stadium," Khaleel added.
Meanwhile, the Indian team’s preparatory camp has been shifted from the SAI South Centre to the Bangalore Football S tadium. The poor condition of the SAI football field had evoked criticism from all quarters, with the players unable to go all out during practice sessions for fear of injury. The team will now be put up in a hotel in central Bangalore.
The UAE team to play the first match is expected to arrive in the city on Tuesday.

Note-1: The Hindu reports about AIFF secretary's trip to Kuala Lumput to meet the AFC top-brass!
It was a difficult legacy that Alberto Colaco inherited when he took over as Secretary of the AIFF more than three months ago.
More than brushing away the cobwebs from a near standstill administrative machinery, the new Secretary also needed to send the right signals to various quarters, especially the Asian Football Confederation, which had begun to feel concerned over the indifferent state of Indian football in recent times. It was in this context that an invitation from Peter Velappan, the AFC General Secretary to AIFF Secretary assumed importance.
Just back from Kuala Lumpur, the AFC headquarters, Mr. Colaco speaking to the The Hindu sounded optimistic that there would be no lag on the part of the Asian body in supporting India's development programmes. In fact it was a subject of surprise that India did not fall in the group of 26 countries which AFC had selected for special financial assistance. "Why India has not been included is not clear and when I broached the topic of having the country entered into this group, I was told that it was too late now", he said. Though Mr. Colaco did not want to elaborate on this it would appear that India's exclusion had to do with the way the erstwhile AIFF administration's poor handling of the issue.
Nonetheless as Mr. Colaco was to realise from the 'very cordial' talks he had with Mr. Vellappan, the AFC was only ready to take up any suggestion that would help in lifting the football image in India. According to him, the AFC's concern stemmed from the fact that while football in West and South East Asia had begun to rise in standards, the Indian subcontinent continued to be a dark zone.
What surprised Mr. Colaco was when he learnt that countries like Myanmmar and Sri Lanka had already utilised AFC's help to build the country's football headquarters.
Mr. Colaco said the AFC was agreeable to organise a major seminar for football administrators in India which could be thrown open for state and club administrators. "The need for professionalism is the need of the hour," he said. It was also agreed to have periodical refresher courses for Referees.
But what AFC is immediately looking to India however is the staging of the first Asian Under-19 women's championship. "India has agreed to host this event," Mr. Colaco said. "We have to conduct this 16-nation tournament before May 2002 and for this AFC will provide financial support," he added.
Overall the two and half hour discussion that Mr. Colaco had with Mr. Vellappan (despite the latter busy with a seminar arranged for the group of 26 countries) pointed to healthier times ahead for Indian football, as per the impressions that the new Secretary had gained.
What Mr. Colaco is keenly looking forward to in the next six months is India getting financial help under the 'Goal' project of FIFA, which is meant for upgrading infrastructural facilities!
Good news for Indian football!!!

Note-1: According to the Times of India the Vijayan situation has become very tricky for the AIFF.
The AIFF has issued show-cause notices to IM Vijayan and his club FC Kochin for not having his transfer papers cleared after playing for Bangladesh club Muktijoddha.
AIFF secretary Alberto Colaco told TOINS from Goa: "We have served notices to both Vijayan and FC Kochin asked them to reply by March 10. We sought answers as to why have they failed to procure the international transfer certificate before rejoining FC Kochin from Muktijoddha."
About possible punishment awaiting Vijayan and his club if found guilty, Colaco revealed, "The AIFF doesn't have any punishment regarding flouting of transfer rules so far. We are just drafting it and it will take some time."
So are they going about it? "We are waiting for their reply and then decide. If points have to be slashed, then National League committee will have to decide on it. If Vijayan has to be suspended, then it is the under AIFF disciplinary committee's jurisdiction. It is a tricky situation", was Colaco's frank confession.
However, the AIFF is not barring Vijayan from playing in the National League. "If found not guilty later, then we couldn't justify our stand of suspending him now," allowed the AIFF secretary.
The issue also won't harm Vijayan's international future as "playing for the country doen't need clearance."
If the AIFF goes according to FIFA law then IM Vijayan would be banned for a few month's and all match opponents in the National League would be awarded 3 points and 2 or 3 goals not sure about that rule. This sadly once again shows that officials in India do not know the rules or do not follow them. They would just need to go to the FIFA website and read. But it is not only the AIFF but also the clubs who should know that under FIFA law just for one or for 100 matches an ITC is needed and believe me I know that as we had the hassles with the AIFF on the transfer of the women players to Germany a year ago, which in the end failed because of the ITC...

3. March
This is an interesting article that I found in the Hindustan Times written by Jaydeep Basu under the title "Will Vijayan get away lightly?":
STAR STRIKER I M Vijayan may be let off with a warning or fine and avoid suspension even if he is found guilty of not taking an International Transfer Certificate (ITC) from Dhaka's Muktijodhdha Sangsad while returning to play for FC Kochin.
The AIFF is in the process of looking into a protest lodged by Tollygunge Aggragami on Feb 26 last that the former India skipper is inegible to play for FC Kochin since he has not taken the ITC from the Dhaka side for whom he has played a few matches.
According to sources, there is every possibility of Vijayan being held guilty as both FC Kochin and the Kerala Football Association have failed to produce necessary documents to prove his legal transfer.
FC Kochin's contention that Vijayan's transfer was time bound also may not hold good as an ITC cannot have such a provision.
The AIFF secretary Alberto Colaco said the result of the inquiry would be known only next week. He refused to discuss the possible punishment calling it 'hypothetical at the moment'.
But he also said that under the law a footballer could be slapped with suspension, fine or warning for any such offence.
"The issue has become too complicated. We may have to refer it to FIFA also", he said.
But Vijayan may escape with a token punishment since any form of suspension might hamper the interest of the national team, which will start its pre-World Cup campaign only next month.
Yet, the whole issue can put AIFF in a spot of bother. Any show of leniency to Vijayan might also lead to Tollygunge taking legal measures demanding three points from the match.
And in case the federation decides to deduct three points from FC Kochin's tally, the Kerala team may lodge a protest saying that Mohun Bagan were let off two seasons back when their Sri Lankan striker Roshan Pereira was found playing in Bangladesh without a legal transfer. But in Pereira's case, Bagan could never be dragged into the picture.
Here it was FC Kochin, who issued the initial transfer certificate to their prized catch.
