Note-1: The disciplinary committee of the Delhi Soccer Association suspended New Delhi Heroes' forward Dharmender Kharola for one year and fined him of Rs 2500. He has been barred from playing anywhere in the country during the period. Kharola had allegedly assaulted linesman C. Ranga Raju during a local league match on July 22. New Delhi Heroes lost that match 0-1 against Youngmen. Earlier, the DSA senior division league sub committee, after considering match referee Julius Ceaser's report, had recommended a two year ban and referred the matter to the disciplinary committee, which halved the ban period.

In their last match of the tour, India beat Bangladesh 1-0 at Filbert Street, Leicester through a long-ranger from Jo

FRIENDLY: West Bromwich Albion 0-0 India - Goals: none.
India showed a much improved display at the Hawthorns against first division West Bromwich Albion compared to Saturday's

players on the Indian side were defender Mahesh Gawli, who gave West Brom striker Lee Hughes very little space; Hardeep
Saini, who played his heart out; and captain Baichung Bhutia, who used his speed in his runs against the West Brom defenders
and nearly scored flying header.

In their opening match of their historic tour, India lost 2-0 to Fulham at Craven Cottage, London. Fulham were the

match making it noteasy for the Fulham strikers. Both Baichung and Renedy said that for a first match under new circumstances
it was a good match. The best department of the Indian game was the defence!!! All four at the back, Prabhjot, Mahesh,
Roberto and Daljit did a brilliant job. CONGRATS INDIA to a good start...

Note-1: The Gomantak Times, Goa reports that Dempo SC have been directed to pay Rs 120,000 to Salgaocar SC
by the players status committee jury of appeal at a hearing held recently. The dispute arose over the transfer of goalkeeper
Upendra Man Singh, the Nepali recruit who switched sides from Salgaocar to Dempo in the 1999-2000 season. Upendra Man Singh
acordding to sources had entered into a contract with Salgaocar SC which was valid till 1999-2000 and was executed much
before the present transfer of rules came into force. The contract however was executed and registered with Goa Football
Association. The services of Upendra were availed off by Dempo for the National Football League of 1999-2000 season. Singh
turned out for Dempo for the three matches in the league. Salgaocar raised the contention that they had a contract with the
player for 1999-2000 season and were entitled to the transfer fees from Dempo SC. Dempo SC argued that they had already paid
the player and further contended the services of the player were not required by Salgaocar, following which they availed of
his presence in the team. Salgaocar SC have demanded that the club be paid Rs 240,000 as transfer fees. The jury of appeal
which consisted of among others former Jugde Francisco Tavora, former mamlatdar Armando Barbosa and industralist Noel da Lima
Leitao, found the figure of Rs 240,000 is too high and instead directed Dempo to pay their arch rivals half of the amount.
Dempo SC officials who were present for the hearing have informed the committee that they will inform their management about
the committee decision and accordingly act on the jury's appeals verdict. Salgaocar have objected to the transfers of Habib
Adenkule and S. Venkatesh to Mahindra United besides Satish Kumar and Rishi Kapoor of ITI and have demanded transfer fees
from the Mumbai and Bangalore clubs.
Meanwhile Indian captain for the England bound team Baichung Bhutia has demanded that age old system of inter club and
inter state transfers should be scrapped and the latest transfer rules governing players implemented in the country.

6. July
The month of July has come and it might be the most important month for the future of Indian football. I have worked on,
with the kind help from my Indian friends Bijon Chatterji and Kristian Joshi here in Germany, the
Indian National Team Tour to England 2000 Site . Have a look! At the moment only infos
are available were one can buy tickets for the three matches and a download text-version of the Indian National Anthem, so
one could learn it properly ahead of the matches!!! Later the site will contain match previews and reports, player and
officials profiles, and a picturegallery.
Also the site on the jersey sales has been totally redone, with a picture of Baichung with the jersey now online under
Jersey Site .

Note-1: Netguruindia.com reports from Calcutta, that the ongoing McDowell Cup football tournament will be
the last one before the United Breweries pulls out from sponsorship of the season opening tournament. The reason, the company
went virtually without publicity the past five years.
The Bangalore-based corporate house had signed a five-year deal with the Indian Football Association and was promised
adequate coverage both in print and electronic media. The IFA, in turn, had struck a deal with ESPN for the television
coverage of the tournament. As per the deal struck between the IFA and the liquor giant, each year Rs 2.2 million would be
paid as sponsorship money to run the tournament.
Having struck a double deal successfully, the IFA mandarins decided to sit back and enjoy life dreaming of an overflowing
coffers. The first hint of trouble started when ESPN failed to show the games live after having its priority changed as far
as Indian football was concerned. Nonetheless, it paid the money as per the contract.
The IFA tried to reason with the TV-company without much success. Meanwhile the sponsor began to pressurise the IFA for
the fulfilment of its contractual obligations. After an acrimonious separation, the IFA landed in further trouble when the
TV-company managed to block any other TV-company undertaking coverage of the meet. This was a big blow for the IFA indeed!
Finding its hands tied, the IFA had managed to prevail upon the liquor giant to continue its sponsorship as per the
contract. Till last year the IFA received the promised sponsorship amount. But this year the amount was reduced to Rs 1.7
million. At the beginning of the next year, the IFA would be in a position to undertake fresh negotiations to bag a new
sponsor and more money. But the poor track record of the IFA in failing to clear the mess it got into in the last five years
would weigh heavily on new sponsors. The IFA introduced this tournament with good intentions but ultimately it turned out to
be an unwanted baby. What is in store for this tournament next season? Only time will tell.
Note-2: GERMANY will host the 2006 World Cup!!!
I live in Remscheid, a small town in western Germany, in whose peripherie of 50 KMs there are five stadiums were matches
of the 2006 World Cup will be held. For me a dream has become true. I will be able to see World Cup matches in front of my
doorstep!!!
An even bigger dream would be to see India in Germany at the 2006 World Cup but I know that this dream is not very
realistic. But dreams are there to have...
