I need to know who has played the highest number of matches and who has scored the highest number of goals in NFL and I-league in the past 12 editions. Can anyone give me the answer?
I belive, Baichung Bhutia, S Venlkatesh or Basudev Mondal had played the highest number of matches, while for the highest goal-getters, there are too many names coming to my mind. I need an authentic information...please...

WILL INDIA EVER PLAY IN THE WORLD CUP?
This is a question, every indian fan, keeps asking. Yes, things don`t look good at the moment; but, India still has a chance however remote it might seem today. Let us first analyse where we went wrong. In 1951, we won a gold in the first Asian Games in Delhi. In 1960, we played in the Rome Olympics. In 1962, we won a gold in the Asian Games beating South Korea. In 1964, we won a silver in the Mardeka tournament in Kaula Lumpur(Malaysia). Then, we began to slip and today we are nowhere near the countries playing in the World Cup. But, if Japan and South Korea, whom we beat in the 1960`s can play in the World Cup today, why can`t we? The answer lies in the fact that football talent was never spotted or nurtured in our country. In those days, we were blessed with extraordinary players. Even in the 1970`s we had skilful players. So it was thought that talent would automatically come up. But in the 1980`s we began to feel the shortage of emerging talent in football. After that, it became dryer and dryer. And now it has come down to one Baichung. Before that we had a strong IM Vijayan or Jo Paul Ancheri. But, how could you spot or nurture talent without having a Youth Development Programme? This was never thought in our country until recently. Its just opposite in the countries playing in the World Cup today. No one is satisfied with its current status. If it is better, it wants to be good and if it is good, it wants to be best. You have to keep improving yourself. You cannot afford to sit around thinking things will get better. Today we are facing the reality of being backbenchers in the world. Football is a team game. It is not like cricket where one or two outstanding players can turn around the game. In football, to make any impact in the international level you should have FOUR or FIVE top class players who will form the nucleus with the support of others who are equally good. If we look at Brazil, England, Germany, or any top football nation, we will find that each team comprises of five or six world class players. In the 1960`s, we also had world class players and thus were at the top in Asia. But now we are lacking such talents. Yet in some ways, things are looking up. With Priyaranjan Das Munshi heading the AIFF, Youth Development Programme has become a priority. We introduced the National Football League, which is today more appreciated than the local leagues. Now we know who are playing in Kerala, Punjab, Bengal, Goa, etc. This was the first step we took to elevate the standard and quality of football in the country. Then we followed the European countries and brought in foreign players. We thought that to enrich our football we need foreign players and that our players would benefit from playing with them. This would also help raise the standards of our players. Unfortunately, we don`t have enough money to attract wold class players. Footballers need international exposure as well. But the problem is you have to send 20 players along with the coaching staff. It`s not easy; it will cost much. But money is now coming in and we are also giving our players international exposure like the tour of Portugal. Another problem is the decline in interest in football in our country. Football is a tough game and anyone can get hurt anytime. So no parents want their son to be a footballer. Although players are coming up from various states to play football. Indians are not strongly built and we have very few players who are six feet tall. So we need a lot of football academies to spot and nurture young talents. Private sector can play a big role here. But after all we are moving in the right direction. Foreign coaches are being brought in and more money is coming in as well. Televion channels are trying to popularize the game. We have already qualified for the Asia Cup 2011.If we keep up the good work, India will defenitely play in the world cup.

Congrats to Indian Football Team for qualifying for the 2011 Aisa Cup. Its been a long wait but, its definitely worth it. The Coach & his staff too deserve full credit along with the AIFF for all the planning and preparation gone into this tournament.
I hope Mr. Nayeemudin will not call for Mr. Houghton's head now.
Its very said to see not a single Media channel covering this Big event in Indian Football. They only have time to cover cricket & even the silliest things in cricket like e.g Yuvraj was at some party last nite etc etc. No wonder why its taken India so many years to win its first Gold Medal at the Olympics. India is not a sporting nation as i feel ashamed they we are hosting the next Common wealth Games in a country where in besides cricket there is not recognition for anyother sport. Also its a shame that in a country where cricket is most popular & has the richest cricket board, yet we still have time to celebrate our only Cricket World cup victory which we won 25yrs ago. I feel the Indian Media has to take a lot of responsibilty for this. After all its the media who can make or break anyone's image.
Coming Back to Football, well it does who signs of improvemet & gives hope to all Football fans in India. A Big Thank You to the Indian Team & Coach & AIFF. Make winning a habit, cause once u've tasted it you know not how to loose. Cheers....

Hi,
India Lost the SAFF Cup Final. Bob Hughton's contract is expiring. Out from his hole comes the old fox Mr. Sayeed Nayeemudin gunning for the Englishman's head. Oh Please for the sake of Indian Football, we are sick of Mr. Nayeemudin. For all his achievements, please keep them in your showroom at home. You had your opportunity & u failed. Looks like he expects Bob to win every match & every tournament India plays in. Don't forget India won the Nehru Cup for the 1st time in History under Bob. At that time i don't think Nayeemudin even had a compliment for Bob. But now - one slip and the knives come out, It just speaks of the mans personality & vision. He is out to settle a personal score with the AIFF rather than think for the overall betterment of football. Guys can't you'll see the progress India is making under Bob? Its not all about winning. Any team can have one off game - It happens to Brazil as well. So what's the big deal? I’ll tell you. The Big Deal is that our Indian coaches & experts with their limited knowledge & experience feel they are of the same level like any other foreign coach who has trained 3-4 different International teams before taking up the Indian Job. AIFF comes under criticism and the debate starts again, India needs & Indian coach & Indian football keeps beating around the bush. The same old story. One last word to Mr. Nayeemudin;by going to Germany/Brazil, going through some coaching manual and getting some coaching License or certification is not enough to think u are up among the top coaches in the world. You still lack experience of football at the International level with all its intensity & standards. So as of now, its better you stick to the domestic circuit & stop criticizing people who are doing a good job. At the most earn some self respect from then Indian players. Do not Demand respect but Command it.

I was just thinking that with 100 years of footballing culture why is it that Bengal still have 'Kolkata Football League" and not "Bengal Football League". Because of this ,football, even though a rage amongst bengalis, have not grown outside Kolkata. There are lots of local leagues played in most towns and a lot of quality players, but due to lack of vision, because of lack of clubs representing at the highest level, these players lack the vision and eventually die out.
Wouldnt it have been great, if instead of Kolkata League, there is Bengal State league, and clubs participate from across the State.(Imagine Mohun Bagan playing against a club in silihuri/Durgapur.)
Wouldnt it be like the same 'Vision India' program to spread it across India.
I would just love to to see a club from Asansol making it to the top heights of Bengal and eventually Indian football.....

hi, anyone know how many teams the 2nd Div I League will have in 2008 and what the teams will be? Last year there were 12. This year, I assume there should be 14 since the 1st Div will have 12 teams, and it is better to have more teams in 2nd Div. than 1st Div. Also, is there any word on where it will be held. 2007 saw good crowds in Kholapur, but it was terrible in Pune and Guwahati. We must give praise to the people of Kholapur for coming out in good numbers and AIFF must find more cities like this to host matches.

Good on Pakistan, they were able to sign some quality players like Zesh Rehman of QPR to their national team.AIFF failed to get quality players like Michael Chopra to play for INDIA.I am glad that atleast our neighbours did their best to get good players from europe.
