Rasputin of Indian football

History is rich with the exploits of the iconic Russian magician Rasputin and his shrewd strategies against the Czarinas. But we will only consider his positive attributes of mesmerizing abilities and strategies.

And in reality, we do have one such Rasputin in the context of Indian football fraternity.
Our protagonist during his playing days was a sharp shooter for India and the favourite student of Milovan Ciric, the wily Indian coach from erstwhile Yugoslavia during the mid 80s. His performances both at the club level as well as at the international level were consistent. Consequently, he was revered amongst his peers and liked alike by the coaches. But what none perhaps knew were his uncanny ability to learn and remember the methodologies and various coaching drills adopted by Milovan Ciric.
Years later, our protagonist was made in charge of a team in doldrums. Not only did he pull them out from the pit, but also propelled them to the premier National Football League. At a crucial juncture of his coaching career, he fell out with the club management and resigned at the pinnacle of success!
Life came to a full circle again. This time around, he was made in charge of a team facing relegation from the National Football League after the first phase. He accepted the challenge and by the end of the premier division, he yet again propelled this team facing relegation to the third spot, which was unthinkable by many football pundits and critics! He has remained with this club and has played a role in meaningful purchases by the club management during the recently concluded transfer season and actually retaining the core squad.

Who is this man and what has he done?

Well, our protagonist is none other than Biswajit Bhattacharya, the present coach of Mohun Bagan AC. What magic did he weave for such astounding results? Well, he simply kept the things simple, utilizing the available resources to the optimum and using the relevant players for the right positions. The results were there for all to be seen.
Inspite of such achievements, the man remains modest and we look forward for his future endeavours.
Here, wishing all the success to the man for another gruelling season on the cards.
