Another back pass from AIFF
The All-India Football Federation has passed the buck on Syed Nayeemuddin's shoulder. The Dronacharya, however, feels the buck isn't that heavy.
Interestingly, the man relieved off the buck - Sukhwinder Singh - suddenly became sentimental hearing Nayeem's appointment. He turned vocal against AIFF - something he should have done a month back. He could have had takers for his opinion then; he could have earned more respect.
What else could the AIFF have done? All their calculations went awry. First, as per their expectations, there wasn't any mad rush among top coaches for the national's job's post. Yeah, eighteen did turn up; the federation would have been happier had some of the others, who stayed away, shown a bit of interest.
What else can the AIFF actually do? Built on a pack of lies, they haven't been able to arrange for that high-profile foreign coach yet. Only in the recent past, the federation did promise Bora Milutinovic, Phillip Troussier for Indian soccer. The wait still continues; one never knows whether it will ever end...
The funds, AIFF say, aren't there. What else can they say? Let's admit; that's the place where they have stayed consistent.
But why? Who's accountable if the national federation can arrange the funds over the years?
Lessons of 'Vision Asia' and 'Vision India' do go around in the Congresses and seminars. The western world believes -- there are 30 million players and three tiers of league are played in the country!
Lies, lies and only lies! No doubt, Indian football isn't moving ahead.
The AIFF, we have been told are gearing up for Joseph Blatter's visit. Blatter, we have been further told, would inaugurate AIFF's central headquarters at Dwarka, Delhi sometime later this year.
Gear up to hear more oaths in Blatter's presence; gear up to hear about AIFF's vision for the game. Only stay rest assured nothing would be implemented. Blatter would go back, knowing Indian football is on the right track. Pity him.
The reality stays that we haven't been able to move out of the SAFF region. Syed Nayeemuddin's performance would be reviewed after December's SAFF Football Championships in Pakistan. The SAFF still remains the World Cup for us and we still dream about making it big.
It's another back pass from the AIFF.
