A lot of people, even the media, was yesterday utterly surprised to read that German giants Bayern Munich are coming to Calcutta. And it isn't a hoax but a reality with the FC Bayern first team coming! The coaches and players are to comment in the coming days and weeks on their Calcutta trip, so we talked to our friend Andreas Brueck, the official FC Bayern Munich fan representative, who had been to Calcutta with the FC Bayern Munich II team in December 2005. Here an excerpt:

Arunava: Were you surprised that Bayern are again coming to Calcutta?

Andreas: I was really surprised to hear about it. After the FC Bayern II trip in 2005 I didn't expect us to come back this quickly. I am positively surprised that our club has decided to do it!

Arunava: Are you looking forward to come to Calcutta again?

Andreas: Yes I am! It is totally different then here in Europe. But exactly this is the attraction and what I really liked. And this time surely more than just 5 Bayern fans will travel along with the team. And this is surely due to the fact that the Bayern first team is coming.

Arunava: How was it with FC Bayern II in Calcutta?

Andreas: It was a great experience for us! I was impressed by numerous facts. E.g. that the IFA Shield is older then our beloved FC Bayern and that football in India (particularly in Calcutta) has a long tradition. And in addition our FC Bayern II was able to win an official title (111th IFA Shield trophy).

Good to get a first feel from the Bayern fan representative about coming back to Calcutta with numerous more Bayern fans set to come and support their team at the Saltlake Stadium!
