Subroto Cup to kick off from Oct 6

The golden Jubilee edition of the Subroto Cup Football Tournament 2009 will be conducted from October 6 to 26 in New Delhi.
The tournament will be conducted in three phases i.e. qualifying round (October 6 to 15), pre-quarterfinal round (October 16 to 21) and main knockout round in two categories viz. juniors Under-17 and sub-juniors (Under-14) (October 22 to 26). The final of the Sub-Juniors will be played on October 25, while the final for the Under-17 category will be held on October 26.
There will be 32 teams participating in the U-17 category with 30 teams fighting for the U-14 title. Among the foreign schools, the biggest attraction will be Army Cadets Force from England, who will be competing in U-17 category, while schools from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal will be also the part of the tournament.
Apart from the Subroto Cup trophies, the winner in Junior's category will walk away with a cash prize of Rs. 150,000 (1.5 lakh) while the runners-up will take away Rs. 100,000 (1 lakh). In the Sub-Juniors category, the winner will be awarded Rs. 100,000 (1 lakh) while runners-up will be handed over Rs. 60,000.
The selection committee will comprise of Tarun Roy (AIFF Representative), K.K. Choudhary (Representative of Sports Authority of India) and Ranjit Thapa (Representative of Subroto Cup Society), who will select 30 players from U-17 group and 16 players from U-14 category, who will be awarded a scholarship of Rs. 20,000 and Rs.10,000 respectively as a one time grant.
