International Sports Journalists’ Day celebrations

The Calcutta Sports Journalists’ Club and Bengal Olympic Association jointly organized a rally commemorating the international sports journalists’ day yesterday.

The Day started with former Indian football captain Chuni Goswami inaugurating an awareness walk at the Netaji Indoor Stadium at 5 pm. Apart from our members, officials of various sports clubs and institutions participated in the rally, which started at the Netaji Indoor Stadium and terminated at the CSJC Tent.
Club president S Sabanayakan gave the welcome address, saying that the Day was being celebrated throughout the world.

Eminent sports officials and personalities like Kamalesh Chatterjee (BOA general secretary), Gopinath Ghosh (BTTA president), Olympian Gurbux Singh and entrepreneur Nitin Patel spoke on the importance and the relevance of sports journalism. The Club secretary read out a message by the world journalists’ body’s (AIPS) president, Gianni Merlo.

Children of Club members, who excelled in academics, sporting and cultural activities, were felicitated on the occasion.
Certificates were given to participants of the Mukul Dutta Workshop on Sports Journalism, which was held at the Club tent last year. Around 40 of the 62 participants were present to receive the certificates.
The programme saw a heavy turnout.
