Indian Under-21 National Team at Rajiv Gandhi Trophy

Indian U21 team for "Rajiv Gandhi Trophy" named:
May 3: 10 players from Bengal have been selected in the Indian under-21 football squad announced for the Rajiv Gandhi International Tournament to be held at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, Margao in Goa from May 5. According to the secretary of the Goa Football Association, Alberto Colaco, hosts Goa have four players, Punjab, Kerala and Karnataka have two players each while Maharashtra and Railways have one each in the team. The team is led by goalkeeper Kalyan Chaubey from Bengal. Ivo Sajh-Scheich from Slovenia is the chief coach of the team. AD Nagendra is the assistant coach while Brahmanand Shankwalkar is the goalkeeping coach. Socorro Coutinho is the liason oficer for the Indian team, the release said.

India lose first match 1-5:
May 5: In the first match of the U-21 "Rajiv Gandhi Trophy" India lost 1-5 against Iraq. India took the lead through a Alvito D'Cunha goal in the 7.minute but after that they were without a chance against a strong Iraqi team. The best players in the Indian team were goalkeeper Kalyan Chaubey and midfielder S. Venkatesh.

Indian team again beated by high score:
May 8: Uzbekistan also defeated India 5-1 in the third and last league match at the U-21 "Rajiv Gandhi Trophy" in Margao and reached the final with that victory. India again were without a chance. The best players on India's side were again goalkeeper Kalyan Chaubey and midfielder S. Venkatesh.
