Maldives Golden Jubilee Cup - Male, Maldives

April 25: Experienced stopper-back Robert Fernandes of Salgaocar (Goa) will lead the Indian team in the four-nation Golden Jubilee Cup football tournament in Maldives from May 1 to 12. Other than India, hosts Maldives, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are the other teams in the fray. The tournament will be played on round-robin basis with the first two teams meeting in the final. The team, coached by Sukwinder Singh, will leave for Maldives from Thrissur on April 28.
The federation, as a policy matter, decided to pick up a junior team for the Maldives tournament and kept out regulars like IM Vijayan, Jo Paul Ancheri and Basudeb Mondal from the camp. Some players like Deepak Mondal, Ratan Singh and James Singh have cried out citing different reasons.

India struggled in the first half but held Bangladesh 1-1 in their opening match of the tournament. SAF Games champions Bangladesh surged ahead as early as in the 5.minute of the play courtesy Zulfiqar Mahmud. However, India's Abbas Ali Rizvi saved his side from an ignominous defeat when he slotted home the equaliser in the 53.minute.

Sub-continent superpowers India lost 0-1 to Sri Lanka in their second match of the Four-nation Golden Jubilee football tournament in Male, Maldives. The matchwinner came in the 4.minute through K.M. Anees. India dominated most part of the match but wasn't able to score a goal.

Maldives win through a 69.minute goal from Thoddu Nizam and enter the final, while India are out of the tournament and can fly home.
