November 11: KV Dhanesh of FC Kochin will lead an INDIA B in the 4-nation Bristol Independence Cup football
tournament to be held at Colombo from November 15. Announcing the 20-member team, AD Nagendra, Chairman, Selection Committee,
that defender Dhanesh, was quitting the Asian Games preparatory camp as he had been released for the tournament by the AIFF.
Besides India, hosts Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Maldives would figure in the seven-day tournament. Nagendra said our chances are
very bright. Most of the players have done well in the Under-19 meet. The inclusion of Dhanesh strengthens our chances. FC
Kochin coach AM Sreedharan would be the coach of the team. Captain Dhanesh was confident. We would put up a brilliant
performance in Sri Lanka, he said. Besides Dhanesh, the team also has experienced players in striker CV Pappachan and
defender Bobby Hamilton of Indian Bank and former junior international midfielder Karunakar Raj. Babu Mather, manager of the
team, said, it is a good idea to send a second string that could be groomed for the future. The youngsters will get exposure.
Our main challenge will come from Sri Lanka. But the youngsters have the skill and talent to put up a good show, he added.

November 15: INDIA B 3-1 Malaysia
India put up a spirited performance to demolish Malaysia 3-1 in the opening match of the 4-nation Bristol Freedom Cup
football tournament despite trailing 0-1 at half-time. Fighting back in the second half, India levelled the score through
CV Pappachan. Stopper-back AS Firoze gave India the much-needed lead 30 minutes later through a dipping header and Abbas Ali
Rizvi completed the tally in the last minutes with a dazzling solo run. Noel Wilson of India was declared the
Man-of-the-Match.
November 17: INDIA B 2-1 Maldives
India moved into the final of the 4-nation Bristol Freedom Cup football tournament defeating Maldives 2-1 in their
second league match. India, playing with a second string in the absence of senior players who are preparing for the Asian
Games, led 2-0 at half-time with Karunakar Raj and striker Abbas Ali Rizvi hitting the target in style in the 20. and
22.minutes, repectively. India could have chalked up a tennis score had their captain CV Pappachan and Mohammed Shafeeq not
muffed sitters one after another. Maldives scored their consolation goal through Mohammed Nazim in the last minute.
November 19: Sri Lanka 1-1 INDIA B
India emerged clear winners in the four team league of the Bristol Freedom Cup Football Tournament despite being held to
a draw by Sri Lanka in the final league engagement. The hosts played a creditable 1-1 draw with India and made sure of their
berth in the final. India had already reached the final by winning against the Maldives and Malaysia. Lankans needed just a
draw to edge past Maldives, who had four points from three encounters after their 2-1 win over Malaysia. Sri Lanka, with one
win and a draw, earned another point after holding strong India and earned a passage into the final.
November 21: Sri Lanka 2-3 INDIA B (golden Goal)
Rajeshkumar Pandy struck a brace, including the golden goal as a spirited India B rallied twice to defeat hosts Sri
Lanka 3-2 and lift the $ 10,000 Bristol Freedom Cup. Down 0-1 at half-time, the Indians rallied around superbly to defeat
the plucky Sri Lankans during extratime. Rajeshkumar spearheaded the Indian second string´s resurgence on change of ends
with Noel Wilson scoring the other goal as the Indians twice came from behind to clinch the exciting victory. Chatura
Maduranage hoisted the lead for the hosts and KM Kabeer had made it 2-1, but the Indians weathered some rough tackling by
the hosts and an injury to main goalkeeper Mark Mascarenhas in the later stages to triumph.
